Well, I was only considering Xbox and PS3 as competitors in this. And the Microsoft marketplace is more popular because Microsoft was working supportively with Indie developers up until recently, when they apparently started turning less favorably on them and are now promising that they'll be better supported on the Xbone. On the other hand, Nintendo is incredibly strict with Indie developers.
And last I checked it was 59.99 for gold membership. Which may not be much in the short term, but that builds up over time. After 5 years you spent another 250 dollars on...nothing. The servers used to run games other than Halo are supplied by the developers, not microsoft. So, just instancing that I paid 250 for my ps3 and 200 for my Xbox, and assuming I wanted to play online (which I should as it's an inclusion of the game itself and not of the console) on Call of Duty, Bioshock 2 (*shiver* god forbid), Battlefield, and Street fighter/the rest of the fighting games that pretty much require internet to stay interesting. I also had these consoles since release and Xbox member ship is a solid 40 dollars. Altogether I would have spent 500 dollars on the Xbox, and 250 on the ps3.
All american budgeting at it's finest. After that, how can anyone justify buying an Xbone for a (purportedly) strong 500 dollars, when they're still gonna have to pay 50 a month on top of all their other bills including internet?
Edit: forgot to include that Ps3 only very recently started outselling xbox. With Xbox being at a world wide 76 mill and ps3 being at 77.
