yup, the AI in this game is amazing, and Im only playing on easy. Ravenholm was. in my opinion, scarier than any scene in Doom III. Doom III was creepy, a little disturbing. Ravenholm in HL2 scared me ****less. I can not tell you how many times I was in that level, had some enemy sneak up behind me and get me so freaked I spazzed out with the mouse, missed my target, and died. HL2 is getting better and better as time passes, and I dont know why all of you hate the buggy so much... I actually liked it more then the boat.

I also have to point out how nice it is to actually have to use physics in order to solve puzzels. Im playing with no guide or cheats, and [spoiler to anyone who havent passed the boat level]at the point where you had to put all the floaters under the ramp in the water so that you could use it with the boat i was running around like crazy trying to figure out what the hell i was supposed to do, until i managed to put one of em in by mistake. I simply love everything about this game, every single ****ing thing. God dammit this game is awesome.

That it is, I think the reason people dislike the buggy is that, unlike the hoverboat, it has perfect traction which leads it to feel very unrealistic and doesn't make it a whole lot of fun to drive, even on sand it doesn't skid around or anything.

Anyway, another question on the plot (spoilers):

I went to Eli's lab and read through the newspaper articles, and it said that the war ended in 7 hours because the humans surrendered. (Where the hell were Earth's Special Forces? :p), Surrendered to The Combine. This means the Combine were not created by Breen but are a seperate species, i'm guessing from Dimension Z. I guess the big alien queen you see on Breen's screen is the Queen of The Combine. It also said that Breen aided in the surrender to the Combine so he was probably in put in charge of Earth by the Queen.

One thing I don't get is that if it was Xen that invaded Earth via the big string of portals, how did The Combine (who are seperate from Xen) appear? It would be a bit strange to bring it down to coincidence that Xen and Z invaded within 7 hours of each other.

EDIT: Here's the newspaper clippings,

the only game i've ever played that was scarier then ravenholme was Aliens versus predator(pc version) on the marine missions, the nemeies were dang smart in that game too(they probobly had preset patterns though because its an old game).

That's still assuming that Xen and "Dimension Z" are infact two serperate worlds. For all we know the red sky could just be a different part of Xen. The Gman appearing to help the resistance doesn't prove much to me either, his motives are never exactly clear and so while he appears to just want to help the resistance, there is probably more depth to his actions than meets the eye.

Well I don't think for one second that the Gman cares about the resistance, just that they're fighting for the same thing (In the same way Goku and Vegeta are), the death of Breen. You make an interesting point about Z and Xen being the same dimension, and I can't think of anything to disprove it

I have to say, Ravenholm has me spooked in a lot of spots too.

Doom 3's scares were more visual, I think. The dark, the shadows, all that stuff. Half Life 2...I'm just like, "what the **** is that thing?!" It was really great of them to blend slow dumb enemies with really fast agile ones. It really catches you more offguard that way.

the combine noticed the bizzare portals that opened because of the resonance cascade in black mesa acording to breen the combine only possess the technology to teleport to other dimentions but not back to their own

because of this the combine after the events of black mesa decided to take over earth so they planted citadels all over that poured out the combine machines enabling them to take over earth in a short time

the human armies were wiped out and the remaning goverments surrendered to the combine and breen worked out a deal with the combine so that he would be the representitive of humanity

it is intirely possible that the combine do not have the ability to teleport themselves into other dimentions and are forced to plant citadels and make the machines and eventually the enhabitants of the planet supress themselves

and i believe the creature that breen was talking to was called a combine watcher acording the models

Bleh at posting same thing, copy-pasting from MM forums:

YAY! \o/ \o/ \o/

I am SOOOOO glad I'm not going to be modding for CS:Source instead of HL2 Multiplayer. :)

I'm like refreshing that news page 50 times per minute waiting for the SDK, I want to dive right into it >_<.

Did you really think they were gonna give out the source code to their cash-cow COUNTER-STRIKE?

This is a perfect excuse with which to confuse and hype the masses, hoping that they forget about the complete SDK that was supposed to be released before the game was shipped.

Good job Valve.

Once again, copy pastage time :O!

HAHAHAHHAHA!

I made a server, and 5 SECONDS later 31 people joined it instantly! The servers are filling up like WILD FIRE.

This is crazy x'D! The lag was killing my FPS.

Yay for the Source Code! Transferring to Visual Studio now. \o/

Ditto, but you have to expect it since the servers must be under extreme stress at the moment.

Half Life 2 is a single player game! It should never not work because a server's too ****ing busy! They took this validation bull**** too far. Why do they have to validate my files when THEY are the only place I can GET those files from in the first place? On paper, steam is a seemingly great idea...but when you are a blatantly idiotic double-dealing bunch of ****heads, with marginal financial investment at best going into things, and you do things like release broken apps and deliberately take down your forum so as to avoid user complaints...well come on, that's just ****ing bull****.

"The servers are under extreme stress" my ass! I got the ****ing files fine, in not even 10 minutes actually--for once I thought Steam worked as advertised. I get the files fine with great transfer but the servers are under extreme stress and that's my ****ing reason?

How many times was I unable to play the Unreal Tournament games single player mode because "the servers were under extreme stress" ? How many times did Doom 3 not work because "the servers were under extreme stress" ? This game is a buggy piece of **** and Gabe Newell's team hasn't got a ****ing competent bone in their body and I'm done debating the situation.

It takes two hours to install...it doesn't validate...it crashes...it stutters...they give us a patch that adds one ****ing cvar and the only thing it does is make things worse unless you turn it off...and now on top of all that they somehow built an update that breaks EVERY OTHER RECENT GAME YOU HAVE on Steam.

These guys are a ****ing joke, and it's a waste of a perfectly decent game to be encapsulated in those ****ing short bus posterchildren's franchise.
