either the authentication server is so bogged down its not taking new tasks (which is far more likely) or that the new patch bugged up the authentication so its not sending or something

Half Life 2 is a single player game! It should never not work because a server's too ****ing busy! They took this validation bull**** too far. Why do they have to validate my files when THEY are the only place I can GET those files from in the first place? On paper, steam is a seemingly great idea...but when you are a blatantly idiotic double-dealing bunch of ****heads, with marginal financial investment at best going into things, and you do things like release broken apps and deliberately take down your forum so as to avoid user complaints...well come on, that's just ****ing bull****.

"The servers are under extreme stress" my ass! I got the ****ing files fine, in not even 10 minutes actually--for once I thought Steam worked as advertised. I get the files fine with great transfer but the servers are under extreme stress and that's my ****ing reason?

How many times was I unable to play the Unreal Tournament games single player mode because "the servers were under extreme stress" ? How many times did Doom 3 not work because "the servers were under extreme stress" ? This game is a buggy piece of **** and Gabe Newell's team hasn't got a ****ing competent bone in their body and I'm done debating the situation.

It takes two hours to install...it doesn't validate...it crashes...it stutters...they give us a patch that adds one ****ing cvar and the only thing it does is make things worse unless you turn it off...and now on top of all that they somehow built an update that breaks EVERY OTHER RECENT GAME YOU HAVE on Steam.

These guys are a ****ing joke, and it's a waste of a perfectly decent game to be encapsulated in those ****ing short bus posterchildren's franchise.

Complaining about Valve is now like complaining about Microsoft. We know they suck, they know they suck, but they have far too much money to care.

I downloaded HL2DM and now HL2 or any related programs won't even attempt to start.

"100% Ready to Play" my ass. ****ing amateurs.

I 2nd that!! heh, I cant start ANY game through steam..I could play HL2 dm twice, then it crashed, Friggin 32 ppl joining, After I set the sv lan to 0 and heartbeat, Faster then I could scratch my eh head the server was full..and hella laggy too..so it crashed..and I could never play my fav game again..(hl2 eheh).. thx steam for killing my addiction with hl2..(wich shall live again tomorrow..)

Bottom line, if Microsoft had built steam, it's network would be a lot stronger, and this type of stupid-ass bull**** would never happen.

This had BETTER be fixed by the end of my workday today.

I really have no idea why all Source engine games aren't working for so many people, but everything is going smoothly for me so far. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved soon.

I just got done playing HL2DM, and by god it was so much fun. I wouldn't have stopped playing but the admin took the serv down.

anyone know why i join a game and start lagging like b!tch,

i joined an empty server with the lowest ping (50) and ass soon as one person joined, the whole bloody server starts lagging... i had a ping of 600+ something, in normal games (including HL it self) i normally get about 20+

my friend and myself both agree (and i'm sure SaiyanPrideXIX will agree too) that Value multiplayer (for HL 2) was released too early, they didnt bother going over the final test one more time to check if everything is 100% complete, i tried joining this morning and get an engine failed error...value really needs to get there head down and start thinking on a update to fix the lag problem for sure and another problems people are having because this is unacceptable... especially for a offical company like Value

I seem to have lag problems in several servers (along with many others), and also, for some reason my HUD is messed up... like, the area that displays the # of bullets in my clip is moved up slightly, and the bottom half of it is missing

I got that after i changed the resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024. It stopped after i changed it back though.

i think it only does it the fist time u change resolutions cause it did that the first time and then when i went back into it it was perfectly fine

Im actually not experiencing any problems at all while playing this game. No stuttering, not lag, not anything. Kinda feel bad for those of you who do, but eh, what can you do about it. Valve will make it through though, they are still getting used to using Steam like its being used now, and do remember this is a great game and that theyve been working on it for a long time now. I wish Valve didnt tell us about HL2 until much later, so that they wouldnt have had to delay it and ship a bugged game. Oh well, we'll just have to wait a bit.
