Well, I just played the game.... god damn. The game is very cool so far, and suprisingly scary as well. It reminds me of system shock 2 a lot, allthough I only played for about 30 mins. I love the flashlight, and the lighting... you actually have to use it at times. I just started, but so far i give it a 9/10.

What would any release date be without a 'Night Before Christmas' parody?
'Twas the night before Doom, and no where in sight
Was a creature more scary than the drooling Hell Knight.
Posters were hung all over the lair,
In hopes that Doom 3 would soon be there;

Gamers saw shades of blacks and reds,
While nightmares of cherubs danced in their heads;
My eyes were so bloodshot I could barely see,
It seemed no sleep would be coming to me.

Just as my clock struck the hour of twelve,
I drove to Best Buy to see Doom was shelved.
Away to the cashier I flew like a flash,
Only to realize I had forgotten my cash.

The moon lay low in a cloud-covered sky
When a twinkle formed in my dashing eye,
I lowered my head and grit my teeth
As I sprung out the door, a newbie thief.

With a leap and a dive and a well-placed kick
Never in my life have I been so quick.
I darted home and installed the game,
As I called out the monsters all by name;
"Now, TRITE! now, CHERUB! now, ZOMBIE and PINKY!
On, Imp! on Mancubus! on, CACO and BURNIE!
To the base on Mars, to the big red ball!
Now kill them! kill them! kill them all!"

Some demons would crawl, some demons would fly,
While they carry your carcass high into the sky,
Yet every monster, from the old to the new,
Could claw out my heart, or eyes, or intestines too.

And then, in a corner, I heard a terrible howl,
Out came a Hell Knight who had been on the prowl.
As I drew out my shotgun, and was turning around,
Down from the ceiling spiders came with a bound.

Legs grew from their skulls, they crawled on quick feet,
They had a mouth full of teeth that made me stir in my seat.
One of them screamed the most ear-piercing sound,
So right down its throat I shot off a round.

His eyes -- how they grew! his guts were glory!
His face was like pizza, his legs how gory!
His once looming mouth now split open like pie,
He fell to the floor, where he would writher and die.

With no time for relief, I was surrounded,
The Hell Knight's steps resounded and pounded.
He swung at my body, just missing my belly,
His claws had a force that turns innards to jelly.

He was ten feet tall and built like a boulder,
I fired a shot but just grazed his shoulder.
A glint of his teeth and a twist of his head,
Gave me to know that I would soon be dead.

He made not a sound, but went straight to his work,
And grabbed at my face; then turned with a jerk,
And slamming me into the rough jagged wall,
And throwing me down like a bloody rag doll.

It was here that I knew I should have left this base,
As he tore off my head, then growled to my face.
One final thought came as he faded from sight,
"HAPPY DOOM TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD FIGHT!"
That pretty much sums it up right there.

Honestly.. I can't understand why you guys like this game

sure.. it's got nice graphics, and yes sometimes it can get a big creepy....
but that's it
you just keep on doing the same thing over and over
1) Pick up ammo
2) Pick up health
3) shoot the bad guys
4) goto 1

that's it
owh and occasionally you gotta open a door, flip a switch stuff like that.
but besides that it's the same thing over and over again

but have to admit
I really enjoyed playing this game for the first few hours

ps. stay away from multiplayer... it's a even bigger disappointment )

^What's wrong with that? I think the game industry is lacking in simple shooters and I'd love to see more. Sadly, a lot of gamers won't touch a fps unless it has plenty of depth and a hundred ways to tackle each situation. I personally play a game for what it is, and don't pick apart a game for what it isn't...

HAHAHAHA. Of course people prefer games with depth. Jesus Christ.

A small portion of an ingame sequence. I locked it at 20 fps so it wouldn't be too large. If you want some longer video clips, let me know... but also tell me how to shrink the size of it. I don't want a 200 mb video taking all 125 gb of my bandwidth >:E.

You might want to change the file format to something people can actually watch. I tried 4 different video players and none can open it and they are all up to date.

To Zeni, actually... believe it or not. Once in a while a person doesn't wanna play a game with "TONs of depth" ... believe it or not some people just wanna get in a game and shoot cool looking things.... it's the simplicity of doom that attracts so many people. Just like the simplicity of "Serious Sam" (atleast here in the states) attracted so many people.

As for the "pick up ammo.. health... kill.. pick up ammo.. health.. kill"
Well.. that's doom. That's always been doom.. and that's always gonna be doom. If you wanna crazy puzzle solver you should be playing Silent Hill >_O. Doom is designed to be exactly what you said for a reason, it wasn't a design flaw.. or a "negative' about the game. Because when you go in and purchase doom3 you should be fully aware that it's still doom.. even behind all those fancy graphics it's still gonna be that fun lil simple shooter.

:D I Also think people should wait until the mod community picks up... it'll be interesting to see what will be created.

-_- tis as i said... only people that are gonna be dissapointed (atleast in my opinion) are those that are expecting doom3 to be something it's never marketed itself as.

Ultima, I love you. Thank you for defending the great series that started this... some people just can't get in touch with the greatness that has been the Doom series. Hell, Doom 1 didn't have all this cutscene, talking mumbo jumbo, you started out in a hallway, with a pistol, and you get to shoot crap, and find yellow/blue/red keys. People loved it. That has been Doom through the entire series.

And what the hell do you do in any other game? In Half-Life 2, maybe? Here's my guess:

1.) Watch scripted scene that sluts havok physics, and is basically a tech demo that completely insults your intelligence
2.) walk around and kill some stuff, get some stuff
3.) listen to an npc talk about the stuff you killed

It's really simple, man. Doom 3 for atmospheric immersion; half-life 2 for ADHD first person shooter fans.

I mean, so what? You're gonna drive a vehicle or two here and there. The graphics will be great. The story will be great. Really it comes down to a preference. You can do more stuff in HL2 and you'll feel more immersed in Doom 3.

For me, when it comes down to it, you come down to two basic gameplay routes:

1.) You are Gordon Freeman, OR

2.) You are a marine trapped on a fearsome military installation that has opened a gateway to hell, and are completely alone, low on ammo, and surrounded by demonic beasts.

The way you all crack on doom is how I feel about the original Half-Life. It did not impress me and I didn't see any special genius in it. It was good but it was not the forefather; it did not invent 3d gaming, the first person shooter genre, the concepts behind 3d acceleration, multiplayer, co-op netplay...and it certainly isn't responsible for the creation of Deathmatch.

In the end, like everything after doom, it is at least 50% imitation, and only 50% improvement.

"it's boring, all you do is shoot monsters get health and repeat"...well, tell me something, all you big badass dudes who know so much about computer gaming. Why don't you explain to us poor undereducated doom fans just what game has come out in the last ten years that you didn't do that?

Oh, but I see how it is. I understand. It's only bad for Doom to be simple.

Personally, I think it's just people trying to find fault in a relatively faultless game. I mean...what else do you people want? What the **** else were you expecting? And why is it so terrible for Doom to "have no depth" (hmm...some people apparently haven't pressed the tab button in-game) but yet countless other games get props? When you get down to it, HL2 isn't any more in-depth than Doom 3.

So why don't you people just go start a thread about why Half-Life 2 is better than Doom, and go circle jerk over there instead of raining on the Doom fans' parade? The thread's called "Doom III Info Here" not "HATERS UNITE: Bunch of Doom ***s Here, Get these *****es!!"

/me thinks a bunch of people are just bent because their game isn't coming out until fourth quarter 2065...

With all this being said, it should be known by the Doom fans that I've found a quick texture fix that might help improve performance on many cards with only slight visual difference. I'll be discussing it most likely in another thread to avoid people telling me how much better Half-Life 2's [insert feature here] will be.

i just got done playing a few more hours, OMG, this game is seriously awsome, ok, here is a quick thought, why does a game have to be completely deep, and why are you guys so negative about details?? good lord! the glass is always half empty around here! i mean this is a game...and so is HL2..... yes they are games people, they are not life simulators(which if you are looking for that, put on sunglasses and walk outside, its ALMOST like a life simulator, but in virtual reality(im saying this in a lighthearted way, im not being an angry jerk)! the way i see it, this GAME gives me cheap thrills and lets me more or less think im in an action movie, with guns blazin' and all that, and isnt that pretty much what games do? and btw, i have never said the phrase, "oh $h!*!!!!" as many times in my life, as i have in the past 2 hours, it really is scary.

I'm sorry, but I REALLY dislike this game.

Its just an average shoot'em'up.

And dont go like OMG BUT THE GRAPHICS ARE SO COOOOOOOOL, well Pain Killer, Far Cry and MP2 had almost the same graphics and Doom 3 is already way longer in production, I had higher expectations since they bragged about it.(Yes I have a good DX 9 video card)

And the "scaryness" level is low.

Its too simple/boring and WAY too predicitable.

Doom 3 my score 6.5/10, ID just overhyped the whole thing.

And also this score is so low, cause the requirements are WAY too high.

Pain Killer and MP2 had way lower requirements.(Almost same graphical level)

if you are so upset with ID, send them letter bombs and make your own game...

ID hasnt made a game in 10 years and are making basically zero profit because u cheap ****s arnt buying the game and just downloading it....

and another thing... if any of you have played the original doom games.... they wernt deep at all.. and this being the sequal, would mean that its depth would stay consistant with the prequals... they didnt make a new game, they made a sequal.... now if doom 3 had a level up system and magic attacks and all sorts of bull****... it wouldnt be a doom game...

I first downloaded Quake 3 and then I bought it, so I did witth 40 other games.

I just dl a game to see if its worth it, Doom 3 is overhyped and not just in my opinion, ALOT of people think so.

I was kinda of a Doom/Quake freak, but Doom III changed that all.(Except for the quake part, I'll just wait for Quake 4 =])
