Honestly.. the whole immersion factor is what makes the game scarey. And the fact that you AREN'T in godmode. The fact that you would do that.. or give urself all guns would really destroy the game. So it's kinda ignorant to post about how ur not impressed when doing such :|

i never said i wanted to enjoy the game the cheating was just for checking weapons and stuff thats all.i would never buy the game myself i played it at a fried so i dont care about cheating.
btw there isnt much difference between a god mode and a quicksave function in an horror game.

Honestly.. that's biast. Why would u nitpick that deep.. and the point of that is to say that ur the "only one strong enough to survive"... so that's another negative gamespot tried to make on doom3 that turned out to be an ignorant comment. (as i just gave u an explination to why the other marines are having a harder time)

That's retarded. Being biased isn't the same as being blackmailed. There are currently 2 generations of FPS gamer: one that started on Doom, and one that started on Half-Life.

What pisses me off personally, is that the new Doom has similarities to the original Half-life, and yet, any person who thinks Half-Life 1 is the greatest game ever, usually is cracking on Doom 3.

To give this game a review of any less than 90% is disgusting. But they are right--it is VERY important to a game like this that you WANT to experience it. If you play it in a brightly lit room in the middle of the day with the sound off, god mode on, and five friends over the house and a TV on in the background, OF COURSE it's gonna suck. The immersion in the game world is what makes it cool. Besides, if you don't play it for at least X amount of hours (and I say X so you can't come back and say you played it that much and still hate it), you won't even see like 1/10 of the cool stuff that happens.

Half-Life will be "just another shooter with amazing graphics" if you play it that way too.

Just for the record, this thread is for people who are Doom 3 enthusiasts, obviously. So if you are just here to diss on the game...kindly start a separate thread. You're interrupting us and honestly, I think I speak for most everyone who's played it and likes it when I say, "We don't give a crap, cause we're too busy playing."

It's quite obviously the GameSpot people didn't play through the game. Otherwise they would know that you are the chosen one, so to speak, as you appear as the saviour on the ancient tablets you find that were made by the ancient civilization on Mars.
Not playing through the game.. I think that's being moronic enough, despite whether or not their blackmailed or biased. They should at least play through the damn game, as the richest moments come at the last quarter.

I've been with PCGamer since they came out, the game got a 94%, that's one of the highest I've EVER seen from PCG.

Highs: Extraordinary graphics and sound; incredible tension, madness and mayhem.
Lows: Some stabs at humour fall a bit flat.
Bottom Line: Just as we'd hoped, it's a non-stop ride of tension, carnage, and terror. A new classic.

I just explained why gamespot pickin at doom3 for that is ignorant seeing how the story easily clears that up. (when i said nit picking... i didn't mean they were right... i meant that they were lookn anywhere they could to find somethin wrong with the game and soon as they thought they found something they went off on it... but it turns out that's actually a crucial part of the story and if they paid more attention they'd realize it >_O)

Though I'd hate to interrupt the discussion of the story elements in Doom 3, I have a graphic issue to bring up:

I just got Doom 3 (legitimately - I went to the store and purchased it) today, and I went to run it for the first time. When the intro sequence started, I noticed a really odd graphic issue that I've never seen, to date, in any other game I own. It appears as a random, "snowy" appearance of white dots, all over the screen. I tried the fix they recommended at Activision's support centre to no avail. Does anybody have a suggestion for this?

PS: I use an ATi Radeon 9800 PRO 128 Mb.

From what I've read, the white dots problem sounds to be a problem for a lot of people who have 9800 pro's. I've not seen any solutions, so maybe you'll have to wait for a fix from ATI or id.

What are the white dots?

White dots are caused by an overheating GPU, the central processor of the video card. Doom 3 is the most advanced game to date, pushing your graphics card beyond what any other game has. This is for ATi cards as ATi's OpenGL drivers are teh CRAP.

What may have been stable for some, before, may not now as the graphics card has to do so much work. Think a factory worker. If you raise the heat of the factory and force him to do more work, he'll do worse.

I had some white dots, and here's what I did to fix it -- went to smartgart, turned off 8x AGP (went down to 4x), then I made sure my vpu recover and fast writes were off.

Underclocking Your Card

If these previous attempts to fix your problem have failed, you can resort to underclocking your card until ATi releases a fix for this problem.

Underclocking is the opposite of overclocking. You lower the default clock settings of your card to just low enough until the "snow" disapeers. It's wise to underclock only 3-5 mhz at a time until it's stable.
