The dude they got to do the music is SO MUCH MORE REASONABLE when it came to what they wanted him to do. I read an interview with him, and he said that they were looking for dynamic stuff to come in and compliment the action, but they wanted ambience to be a top priority. Then he said something most musicians never say:
"So I figured I should back off a little bit, keep it simple."
I think he did the music for Alice, too, but that was a lot more subtle. I'm just glad the guys at Id went in the direction they did with the music--that grungy, scratchy messed up rock music. There's some BGM on the g4 video off of file planet that was so cool I went out and learned to play it.
I still miss the original Doom's music, though....
