http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/01/update-brick-your-360-speak-up/

About 8 seconds of googling. Problems from 2006 all the way up to 2011. Not small issues either, just not publicized by Microsoft themselves. I'd be willing to bet I'd find even more if I searched a more generalized term than "xbox 360 update brick". And I'm sure if I did ps3 I'd get the same amount, including the report from 4 hours ago.

You serious, man? You keep saying I'm a fanboy when I'm the only one not actually taking sides. Bricking happens ALL. THE. TIME. There's no argument against it. That's what happens when you have millions of consoles and only a hundred, at most, developers.

And Microsoft is winning because of how customizable DOS programming was. That lead to windows OS's being in most companies in the world, leading to consumer saturation. Microsoft has an effective, legal, monopoly on software. Windows fails all the time, and it's way far from perfect and I find myself having to reinstall customer computers all the time for the most inane reasons INCLUDING it's own updates failing for absolutely no reason at all.

It seems like I'm the only person not trying to pick sides for common problems. ps2 bricked. xbox bricked. wii bricked. ps3, 360. Guess what, ps4 and xbone are gonna brick as well. Now that we have internet connectivity in our consoles, it's gonna happen alot more often to all consoles.

So two articles on an issue from 2 years ago and another from 7 years ago? That's great. Really, it is. And yet it still doesn't excuse Sony. At all. And if you're willing to take it in the ass because, hey, it happens, the problem is you and everyone with that mindset. Quality assurance is a thing, and if it isn't taken seriously, why the hell should I drop 400 or 500 bones on a product that'll work when it feels like it and won't when they're having a bad day? And of course Microsoft didn't publicize their issues. Did Sony publicize this or did a hundred message boards need to ***** about it first before Sony's official response became, "Don't download that" and then finally took it offline?

What this boils down to, I think, is console gamers are terrible consumers. Hell, the RROD should have been the end of the 360.

Again, it isn't about "winning". I don't know why it always comes down to that in these conversations. They're just better at programming and security. I mean, you can try to argue they aren't, but again, (and following your advice) Live has never lost my credit card. Anyone who had PSN during the period when Sony lost theirs had their information compromised. If it wasn't, it was only because there were so many accounts to be stolen, that they lucked out by not being one of the extremely unlucky ones. I don't know how many years I've had with PCs and windows has never "bricked" my computer. That concept is laughable. Anything that's gotten out of hand and resulted in a meltdown has been purely through user error on my end, and quickly fixed by reformatting. And you know what? You'd expect more PCs to "brick" considering basically every computer is different. What's Sony's excuse? The only difference between PS3s are their hdds, which were swapped out because Sony said they could. How was this not taken into consideration, or tested?

I'm actually reading a bunch of links on google right now, and bricking is a regular occurrence on the PS3 generally related to firmware updates. This isn't true of the 360. Its rare enough that even reading the occurrence from 2 years ago was slightly surprising.

Also, let's not pretend you haven't drawn a line in the sand. You're literally the only person calling the XB1/X1, "Xbone". Every time Sony does something ridiculous, you're here to draw an outdated Microsoft parallel. When trying to say one company or console is better than the other, drawing parallels to the company or console you're demonizing doesn't actually help. Especially since I'm thinking about making the switch to the PS4. But if I have to deal with luck of the draw updates that may or may not **** me, or have Tim from Microsoft start living with me so he can report on my every move, I'm going to go with Tim. I can put him in the closet and never have to worry about him again until the smell becomes too strong.

I'mma piss of that saiyan assclown and take a leaf outta your book for this one

The problem I have with business in general is that they try to hide shit that IS, unfortunately, unavoidable. Hardware breaks down and there's no such thing as quality assurance when were talking about systems in the millions and one of the reasons I'm more than willing to give Sony a pass on this is because the problem is -solely- with aftermarket hard-drives. At least as far as I can find by googling it and you may be mistaken if you think this is a huge rampant problem right now. Less than 10% of consumers have had bricking. I don't even know how much, personally.

What this boils down to, I think, is console gamers are terrible consumers. Hell, the RROD should have been the end of the 360.

Because aftermarket isn't a brand in itself and each hdd does require a driver to use, with all of them being different. Why was it not taken into consideration? I couldn't tell you, but I certainly don't blame any company for assuming a small optimization patch would brick a system based on a hard drive. And alot more computers DO brick, but we tend to called them crashed or corrupted. It's usually through virus or malware, but updates and programs can do it as well.

I haven't taken any sides, I just happen to like the nickname. It's funny. You had a great point with the company's recent security breach, but this is something that happens with everything. It's just technology. Everything from Iphones to pads to windows/mac computers go through software issues. I see absolutely retarded and nonsensical issues in all this shit so often it makes me cry in bed, sometimes. But there's really nothing tying me to either system atm. The system I care most about, being a Nintendo fan, is the Wii U and whatever else I buy will be secondary.
And I guess quotes don't count as a typed message.

Yeah, I read that earlier. Didn't post it yet because it wasn't confirmed, but looks like it is now.

I'm still sticking ps4 for the moment based on price and specs, to a lesser extent, but we'll see what else they do.

Basically:

"**** you, Microsoft! Way to ruin gaming!"

They do what everyone wants them to do:

"******* flip flopper! Way to stick to your guns!!"

I legitimately hate everyone on the internet.

Hahah, well they kinda had it coming. Shame where it's due. I may be open to getting an xbone now that they've flipped, though.

Not that I didn't entirely expect them to do this, but still. It's hard to argue against ps4's price, but I do like some of the Xbone's features.

I've just learned the hard lesson from the past 2 generations of consoles not to get them on launch anyway. The awesome feeling of having your shiny new toy fades really fast when you beat the ~2 good games that were launched with it, then by the time some awesome game comes out the console is $100 cheaper.

Well, can't argue the price drops but there does seem to be a damn good amount of games releasing for both consoles this time around.

Well, now it's a fair fight :). A console is only as good as its games and now everyone can make a decision based exactly on that and that alone. I'm glad consumers can still make a difference in this world, albeit we really have to scream and shout in huge numbers before they listen.

If PC had all of the same games, I'd be fine sticking with it. But it doesn't. And that's a shame.
