So I am now a Level 4 Imperial Thief and I haven't even begun the main quest.

God damn, stealing is SO much fun. I have about 700 Gold all from doing a couple quests and theft.

One cool unexpected touch (I have never played another TES game for more than 10 minutes) was that I stole from "A Fighting Chance" in the Imperial City one night. When I went back another night and went up into the private quarter again, not only was the lock upgraded but there was a DOG inside. I ran out the door because I didn't want to have to fight the dog or have it bark or something. Same thing with Jensine's place, except as soon as I went upstairs, she magically appeared and told me to "get outta here".

I currently have a steel helmet and shield, steel boots, chainmail bottom and top, chainmail hand-wear, and a charged debaser I nabbed off a corpse. I also have an extra 700 gold I need to spend, as well as a 1100 Gold ring given to me by Thoronir.

<_< I sort of need the shield and the helmet to survive in the Arena (not really, I still haven't passed level 1 because I suck at fighting). I'll sell them eventually.

plus theres all the side missions and random 'gta' stuff you can do
Wrong, you can finish at level 1. I saw it on the official Oblivion forums.

Don't wear heavy armour as a thief, it decreases your sneak skill, indirectly.

How so? Do you mean that it makes noise? Cause I take it off at night when I'm robbing stores. Or is there some other way of decreasing sneak that I don't know about?

Some of you guys were complaining that you can't kill someone in their own home away from the guards, without getting in trouble.

If you can kill them in one shot, sneak first and then kill them. If they die in one shot, the guards won't be alerted. You can even do this outside in broad daylight.

No way, I'm a level 6 thief/assasin myself. And I got trough the Arena easily all I needed was my light dark brotherhood armor, and a silver long sword I grabbed of a guard when I killed him. But heavy armor is useless to a good thief, it just makes way to much noise. A thief needs light armor, and no boots or very light boots so you can sneak.

And yeah, you can kill people without guards finding out. (It would be rather hard to join the dark brotherhood otherwise.) Yesterday I was picking a lock of a house. Went inside, and found 2 people there, and because I didn't want the guards to chase me, I made sure they both died before the could leave the house. It wasn't my plan to kill him, but I didn't want to pay the bounty so I was forced to.

Sicron--sometimes they don't even have to leave the house. You hit once, and the guards appear. Sneak-killing removes that possibility.

How do you kill with one hit though? It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, for me. The only time I murdered someone without being caught was in a shack outside the imperial city. I killed the resident while he was sleeping.

Well, my thief gets a 6x damage bonus for Sneak Attacking. It's enough to kill most non-combative NPCs.

the only way heavy armor effects sneaking is when light shines on it. i'm rpetty sure apprentice sneak removes the boot penalty.

and the official guide states that you need to finish the 15 'main' quests to do the 'final' quest, which requires you be at level 21.

used the guide to finish the cure vampirism crap sooner...

and to find the neat things, like umbra, the unicorn, and the unbreakable lock pick

Get a good weapon. I have a short short that does a reasonable amount of dmg + an instant drain life ability. If that adds to the x6 stealth crit, you can take out allmost anything with one hit. And the heavier you are, the more noise you make. So be carefull when you're pulling a heist.

ZM, it's damn well possible if you consider most creatures lvl with you. I even did the first oblivion gate at lvl 1, and finished the arena at level 1.

Yeah, man. The Dark Brotherhood has the most insanely fun quests I've ever done.

I've also just become a vampire, and wow. I cleared out 4 dungeons with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Sure, I hate daylight now but the powers are completely worth it. I've also spent all of my money on a black horse. Its the fastest kind that you can buy, but my speed rivals it. I own.

Sleep for 3 days or wait for 3 days. You will turn.

So far, I have an ability than makes people love me (raises disposition by 50), a nightvision/life vision spell thing (lets you see during the night and lets you see the aura's of anything thats alive), a spell that turns me invisible for 3 minutes, and 1 other thing but I don't remember.
