I've tried literally dozens of MMOs, in both beta and release. Unequivocally, "free" almost always equals "bad," "grindy," "shallow," and "poorly translated."

that is true 95% of the time, but SRO was truly great.

i liked it more than WoW, its job system was great (well, better before they "fixed " it)

trying out 9 dragons, and its not so bad, but if its like what you guys said, that it "never changes" there really isnt alot to it,

I am quite shocked and hurt by that statement, being a WoW junkie myself.... I <3 my wow, apart from the fact u have to play so much to get where u want the game is brilliant, especially when u hit 70 and start raiding. Pvp kicks ass too ofc.

Anyhows, if u wanna try a quite unique mmorpg with some pretty nifty quests/dungeons/classes try the dnd online trial http://www.ddo.com/ It's quite good and is based soley on dungeons/instances, it allows you to use your experience to level up as other classes, so you could be a warrior ranger, or a wizard warlock etc... it also is relatively accurate to the board game. I'd recommend you at least try it :p

Zu Online - This is one of the best MMORPG I've played so far. Leveling is easily and mostly done through completing quests. There's always quests available that you can take on. Grinding isn't as emphasized as in most MMORPGs, though there are quests that require you to kill x amount of x mob. The art style is anime-ish, but really unique.
I just loaded up Zu and it looks great. The only thing I didn't like about it is that the map is huge and you practically have to put a trace to get to the spot you need to go. I'll be playing more tommorow :d

I tried EVE for a bit. The Corp I joined kinda sucked, and without the purpose of a level grind or quest progression, it just got stale. I joined a newbie training guild (lol, corporation) that did ****-all, so I ended up canceling my subscription after a couple weeks. I just got tired of running missions and doing market-runs for cash. It was way too daunting to get into as a newbie - I could tell the game had depth, but didn't have a clue about how to get to it.

I really like how there is only one server though. You'll never run into the situation where you find out someone you know plays WoW, but on a different server. Anyone that plays EVE can play with anyone else that plays. Not to mention that all the graphics - all of it - was just redone in full '07 graphical glory for the last big patch. Now that's dedication.

Yea I tried out EVE again recently too, but quit because I was getting obsessed and my ship got blown up while I was taking a nap (I know right). The graphics update was freaking awesome it's a beautiful game, but it does get boring at some times. It's also way easy to make money. If my ship didn't keep getting blown up by *******s it would have been a much more enjoyable experience for me I think.

I don't think EVE is an MMORPG in the terms one would usually portray an MMORPG. EVE is a space mmo, where everything takes eons to accomplish. I guarantee you, unless you want to pay for it, it is a waste of your time. It is however a good game - one I might have paid for if I had a creditcard.
Errrr?

RPG stands for Role Playing Game.

Last time I checked it didn't mean "Some random online fantasy game where you can get pets and magical axes"

Eve is an MMORPG in every sense of the acronym.

Probably also the best looking MMORPG ever aswell, the particle effects system is getting updated soon too.

EVE Online is classified as a MMORPG Space Simulator, though the official site just calls it an MMOG.

You might want to keep an eye on Infinity. And upcoming free MMORPG in space. Although it might have some premium packages. Even though it's free, and usually free doesn't mean good, I'm optimistic about this game. A hell of a lot work is being put in it, more than any mod for a game, more than most commercial games. You should check out their development section in the forums, some awesome stuff over there. For example, the game will contain literaly millions of planets, all of which can be visited. They are all randomly generated using procedural generation (similair to Spore's planets) They also have a ****load of awesome looking ships. And it will probably be one of the best looking online games.

Seriously, check it out.

The only way a non european guy can play Infinity offline is that if he has an account since the open beta, so if you're american and you want to play it get an acc from a guy who played it before.
