In these forums there are some kids here that are like 10 and 11. And they know net lingo such as: "lol" "lmao".
When i was that age i wasnt on the net 24/7. I never used it unless for school projects.
So u older guys, what do u think of these kiddies being active members of the net community.

Its annoying as far as I'm concerned. When I was younger I only played some games, I never ran around being a total moron.

I stick to my age group in most communities, which is why I'm not very active here anymore. Its all a bunch of kids for the most part.

I find it preposterous to be honest, 10 - 11 year old should not be on the internet "twenty-four seven" mainly because of some of the stuff that floats around, pornographics images and footage are easily accessed over the internet, and I doubt that alot of parents use a parental lock against it or block the sites. Secondly also because of the communities, alot of communities are not made for 10 - 11 year old kids, thirdly the large amount of cussing (I don't see a problem with that, but let's face it, most find it troubling for little children) I think a nice would be atleast 13 years old, not younger, but this is just my opinion.

When i was 10 and 11, i played games with my friends (not computer games), and i would occasionally play my snes or genesis. It seems as though video games are raising the youth of today. Sad thing is, when they go on the net we're almost forced to babysit them.

Hey, what's so bad about Dragon Ball? You saying that it's wrong to like it? If so, why the hell are you on these boards?

I really don't care, and I find it moronic that you care. Let them do what they want?

Do they come on here and make threads called "Idiot older kids on the net" then ***** about how older people come on her, and post meaningless topics about eleven year olds? No, they don't.

I must ask though, how do you know they are on 24/7, and what is wrong with "lol"?

Let them do what they want, it is not up to us to judge them, or strike them down simply because they use the internet.

I agree. Now and days the internet is very widely used. By everyone. My brother is 5 and he uses it. My sister is 11 and she uses it. They don't go to bad sites. They go to sites like disneychannel.com or cartoonetwork.com or something like that. But they aren't on 24/7. They go on the internet to play games, just like you. They go on to research things, just like you for your reports.

(im 14 just for the record)

Well this is a new age. The age of technology. Every person on this planet has once at least had something electronical. Its easy to understand the 24/7 thing because the internet has EVERYTHING! im just gonna say that from 1990 to the end of the technology age (probably in the next 26 years). When this age ends we will be going ontto things that arent technological maybe back to the hippie age o_o

Eh....It's a mix.......But I STILL feel like a dried up tired old man who keeps yelling at the kids to get off his lawn.

Hell, I'm very mature amoung the Most mature of my age. While I'm a lazy bastard. I'm kinda worldly enough to have even lost my faith in humanity.

I'll gladly talk to you about how the world is in decline and headed for a massive self destructive cataclysm........I guess I'm just....dark........

At least my HL2 and Mecha Fanboy half helps lighten me up sometimes.

Who cares, I haven't come across anyone on these forums that spam 'lol' and 'lmao' I don't even know who is 10 or 11 because I don't check people's ages. You're being immature by making a thread about how you don't like them.

I dont see that very much at all lately.

Ive seen older people act immature like myself and alot of people I know, it just depends when you do it and how much you do it. I'm not to worried about kids on the net, but most ive seen act immature and stupid imho.

They're young, so their easily influenced or easily excited about the simplest things. Anyone should realize the world is an adventure to them, so I can understand if they have this whole mystical hero complex. I feel the only way to help them realize how naive they're being, is to educate them in the ways of being mature and how to recognize and accept another's opinion.

I've seen too many times, where an older person, who knew damn well that he could have handled the situation maturely, lowered himself to the same age and level of the younger one, he could have obviously teached, instead of deciding to just ironically repeat him/her.

It's only logical to set an example in this instance, if you want these "kiddies" to realize their supposed "faults."

ek, im 17 now, i've been using the net scince i was 8-9, use to play jedi knight dark forces 2 all the time >_< or downloading stuff for it, been part of one or two communities never anything i really visited much though, and i dont agree with being on the net 24/7 (even though i did used to do that at times, and still sorta do :s) but kids can do what they like, if they enjoy it that much than fair enough to them. I still got good grades :\, i dont kill people cuz i saw it in a computer game. One thing i have a problem is confidence and motivation, but i dont think you can put it down to being on the internet to often, may have had a part to play, but i still go out with my mates and i enjoy myself. I dunno, kids should feel free to explore the net, the only thing i find scary is how on google you type in something like "goku" on the image search, and find the occasional porn image :S anyway, they seem to be doing a lot to stop those kind of things these days.

I got the impression you saw this as a fault, since you basically supported SoulStriker's rant with this comment.

It's not their "fault" that they get excited over simple things like video game eye candy, their young and everything is still new to them.

Younger and younger kids are using it, yeah, and a lot of the time they DO do inappropriate crap, because kids are curious. Hell, I did it. Our youth is simply becoming more and more corrupt, more and more morally bankrupt, but what can you do? Sign up for AOL 9.0 with new parental control features! :p

As for internet abbreviations... you don't need any level of maturity to use those. When you say "lol" you probobly aren't even smiling, let alone laughing out loud; your mind is just somewhat amused and you wish to convey that.

I've met some pretty mature kids of 13-14, and I've met some typical, idiotic and annoying ones. But they have a right to be here, just like you and me. Plus, I meet people ages 17-20+ all the time gaming anyhow, and 50% of them are about as mature as friggin' 3rd graders. Age is overrated.

You could say that age and expected maturity is overated.

It's only sensible and less stressful to go with the flow, since it seems all these restrictions on "real life" as I like to put it, only make it harder for children, when they accidently tread up on it. Real life meaning sex, violence, and immoral behavior. No matter how much parents try to keep their kids unexposed to these things, sometimes it's just a useless plight, and the kid is overwhelmed with something he/she was completely naive to.

Parents need to emotionally prepare their kids for the future, instead of basically trying to keep them from "crawling out of the cradle."
