Yea... That means that the icon picture for your Steam icon is missing... now, you could make a new icon.. or you could reinstall/repair steam. I would try to make a new icon first, and then if that dont work... you might wanna try to repair steam (if thats possible, im not sure). Your last resort is to completely Reinstall Steam.

well here's an update, all the adware and stuff i think are gone since the red x has been gone for ages now, but there is another problem that has arised... every couple of minutes a random internet explorer opens up and goes to some random web address i've never heard of and closes straight away and a window comes up saying

Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for inconvenience.

if you were in the middle of something, the informatino you were working on might be lost.

Please tell microsoft about this problem
we have created an error report that you can send to help us improve windows explorer, we will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

to see what this data report contains, click here

and then the: Send Error and don't send thing.... but here's another loophole... if i press send error report a few times the computer freezes and i have to restart... the only way i can type this bit up without freezing is that i don't close the window... so yer another problem :S any suggestions?

Re-Install windows to fix every error you've had.

I love how every time a problem comes up, almost half the forum is like "REINSTALL IT WILL WERK~~~"

Do you have any anti-virus running/have you scanned lately for any virus's?

Try to scan with adaware again. Also, a computer format (not reformat) could be at issue.

And to be clear, these random pop up pages come while your playing games/etc, or are they when your on a website?

How slow exactly is steam? Go to start-->right click My Computer-->Properties and tell me how much RAM you have, maybe you have too little RAM and too much applications running :O

edit:

post, I'll check it tomorrow, I'm sleepy :) Night.

I've had good help from these people in the past. Follow the steps, and if the steps themselves don't clean things up for you, the forum's analysis of the HijackThis log you post should help you clean everything up.

Stuff like this is a *****, so I wish you luck.

the pop up's come up like every 20 seconds when i'm in a game, surfing the web or away from the computer it comes up for a few seconds and closes and the don't send send window comes up and it usually freezes and well steam just got up like a couple of hours ago and here's a screenshot of my system properties :O

<a href="http://img214.imageshack.us/my.php?image=systempropertiesdn2.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/1898/systempropertiesdn2.th.png" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

Hmm, well I can officially say I'm stumped. Try frsrblch's suggestion, maybe higher up people can help.

And I bid you adoo, night.

Kaination, reading a few of your previous posts you have mistaken safe mode for not being necessary. Firstly, if it doesn't happen in safe mode (which most likely it shouldn't), then it makes things easier to repair and less frustrating since you don't have a pop up popping up in your face every 20 seconds (from Vegeta's analysis of the problem currently). Secondly, reformats do work in the sense that if any serious damage has been done to the OS itself or various attempts and ways of fixing different issues have failed, not to mention if you have everything backed up the and now how to do it the process is fairly simple and offers peace of mind. Thirdly, a format and a reformat are essentially the same thing.

Again, don't feel offended or insulted by my post, just stating facts, pros and cons and different methods/solutions for fixing these particular types of problems.

Generally, when I am servicing a computer for someone and they have got malware/spyware/adware/viruses/trojans etc and noticve any serious or odd behaviour with the system, or the user tells me different details of his/her issues I will go through and try to get the system fixed by all/any means possible.

Boot into safe mode for starters (by pressing F8 before the windows boot up screen). Scan for spyware/malware/adware using Ad-aware, Spybot search and destroy & lastly hijackthis (do a scan + log and post the log on a security focused forum). Also consider getting spyware blaster and use it to protect your system. After that reboot windows and start windows as you would normally and see if the same or odd behavior, and all else fails try using system restore and restore your system to a point before this all started happening, and if that fails in attempting to fix the problem backup your data and be prepared for a reformat.

It's not good for your computer to jump on it. No wonder it got spyware, it hates you.

...and if you're still getting popups, the problem hasn't gone away at all.
