I dont think Ki regenation rate should be altered in any way. it will slow down the game even further. If you want some advantage to ground combat then:

Add stances that can be only used when in ground:

Normal Stance: Deals Regular Damage, Gets Regular Defence Against melee and Ki

Melee Stance: + Damage with melee, -- Damage with Ki. Gets Low Defence against melee and Regular Defence against Ki.

Ki Stance: -- Damage with melee, Regular damage with Ki, + Can sustain charged Ki attacks if hit less than 3 times. Gets Very Low Defence Against melee and Ki.

This will make the game more strategic and you will actualy have a reason to stay on the ground. well i just made up this idea so its poorly thought out.

Why not just give ground melee moves that air can't? Aside from the automatic hit, sending the person upwards.

Like when you hit soemone accross the ground, they would't roll till the end, they woud be skidding accros the ground instead and a hit upward would only insue if you were'nt swooping towards them.

Advanced melee, isntead of smashing the person's head into the ground with a strong red down hit, they should "bounce" off the ground somewhat, open for a basic melee attack.

Rather than changing air combat, I'm for the idea of making advantages to ground combat. The stance idea sounds good (kinda like jedi knight.)
