Before Counter "Crap" - Strike became extremely popular, people played many many different mods.

It was a great time *sigh* I played CS for a few versions (v1.7b - v1.4) it was fun but its just lame now, it gets worse every version. But anyways, I am just trying to get people into other mods, I mean god, a lot people know about CS but not Half-Life how sad is that?!

Anyways here is a list of a few REALLY fun mods that used to be full of players (Until CS Retail really sucked people in the crap trap):

Yeh, there are a lot of really fun HL mods out there. I don't play CS, for obvious reasons.

There was also a fun mod I played called Canned Tuna. Great fun.

Allow me to interupt with an old Quake 2 mod that is becomming more and more forgotten.

Action Quake 2.

If you've played it once, you remember it. Talk about good times! I wasted 3 years with this thing. Got into and out of my first major clan, and had the time of my life. Damn the old days of Quake 2 were good... It's still a really fun mod, but as most games of the time, no hit detection. The skill is all in leading your shots, as it should be!

The Opera (Same losers as in AHL)

Those 9 mods were super fun, Those mods are older or
as old as CS... I remember slimshady.... the guy that made
Cold Ice convereted the mod to Quake 3 when it was released...
But I dont think he ever succeeded. It was fun as hell as it was on
Half-Life.

Natural-Selection quite fun...or in the words of me...jolly spiffing...if sum what strange and...well...annoying when you go the marines,if the aliens outnumber you..(ggrrr many games went the way of the "disconnect" button thx to the lame 6 vs 3 games)

I still love Half-Life and I hope it stays around a lot longer.

I am not really constant with the mods I play but I don't play Counter-Strike anymore.

OH! Another mod that wasn't the best but pretty fun was Front Line Force I stopped playing it but I dunno if it died or not.

Heh, I used to play DoD (For about a month). It was fun but I really sucked, the highest # of kills I ever got was 5

Why the flaming of CS? You may not like it but guess what? millions of people around the WORLD disagree with you so please respect others opinions, no need to say counter crap and crap trap just say you don't like CS. Anyway its not CS that is bad its the idiotic people who made it bad (like myg0t and the other hacking clans and people who made hacks) Play CS at an LAN and you know what I mean. It is still fun and the best mod ever made for HL (the numbers prove that). BTW is you don't like how CS is now they have a mod called Retro-CS, its basically a remake of beta 6.
More on topic: There are tons of mods for HL and i would say 75% are not worth playing, but there are many good ones that people no longer play, like DMZ, yes DMZ I tried to find servers for it one time and there was 0. The Opera is a great mod that was forgotten for reasons unknown. Vampire Slayer is a good mod but I think a lot of people know about that. Sven Coop is pretty fun too, and people still play it. The old DOD i am talking about 1.3 because i think after 1.4 they changed a lot of things and IMO made it alot worse although its still good. Front line force Action HL and Firearms are all good mods but are not close to being dead mods. and Natural Selection (one of THE BEST hl mods EVER) is a very popular and fun mod.

Some good mods that arent very popular: (now trust me these are GOOD mods):
Global Warfare - Great mod and very fun to play. Right now it has the Middle East Campaign where the UN fights against the ALF (Arab Liberation Forces) there are classes similar to TFC, newer betas will have different campaigns , i think beta 2 has European winter style one. The only downside I can think of for this mod is the community, some people are annoying and a lot of racism goes on, but still a good mod. The Specialists - let me just say this mod is AWESOME, the effects are great, it has stunts similar to Opera, DOD and AHL but it is better than both of them (my opinion). It also has Matrix / Max Payne style slow motion effects!!

Existence - It is based on the popular movie THE MATRIX. It has Neo Morpheus and Trinity but their names have been changed to escape legal persecution I guess. it is a team based mod also, where the Rebels fight against the Agents just like the movie. Even if you never saw the movie it is still a fun mod. ( www.whatisexistence.com )
