Doom 3 Info

i am 100% sure that if ID had added some sort of depth to the game (whatever you choose to think of as depth, is up to you)

EVERYONE would complain that it isnt "doom" anymore... and they would be complaining just as much as now

doom is doom... and ID kept it that way.. and it worked.

I played HL1 two days ago, it entertained me alot more then Doom 3.

You can say, well doom 1 and 2 had no storyline so Doom 3 also should have no storyline/depth whartsoever...

That's just BS, games should go forward, not backwards.

doom 3 is a BIG step forward from doom 1 and 2

And dont go like OMG BUT THE GRAPHICS ARE SO COOOOOOOOL, well Pain Killer, Far Cry and MP2 had almost the same graphics and Doom 3 is already way longer in production, I had higher expectations since they bragged about it.(Yes I have a good DX 9 video card)

The only game that I would remotely compare to doom 3's graphics is Far Cry. Painkiller and Max Payne 2 have nothing on it.

And an improvements they are :\ (And the storyline is crap, admit it, just like HL1(Which is also crap) :O)

First go PLAY MP2 and PK, before you say anything -_-, the graphics are almost the same.(Ohhh noes Doom 3 engine support more polies, wich is barely noticeable.

Look closer before you judge.....

Doom 3 is overhyped and you can say anything you want, but you guy are just like DOOM 3 FOREVA....you dont even take a step back and look again.

I guess it's just a matter of preference. If you like 40 monsters spawning at a time for no reason, go pain killer. If you like powerful monsters that give you a shock when they come out and are very well rendered, go doom 3.

Quality over Quantity, Doom 3 wins.

Painkiller was fun too, though =P.

Is it just me or do all these kind of threads turn to subtle flaming? I can't count the amount of times that people in this thread have said that other people's opinions are BS, and that they can't possibly like the game.

Anyway, to lighten it up a bit, I was browsing around and I found a tweak that can possibly give a large performance boost.

I can't try these out myself since I don't have the game, but I thought some of you might be interested in this stuff.

There is another tweak, too. If you go into doomconfig.cfg, and change a line that says GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR to GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST, you'll get a pretty decent boost.

If you have to set it on medium, no, it's not terribly noticable. I suppose from higher settings you might.

Anyone know the commands to sync up your refresh rates?

seta r_displayrefresh "***" to whatever res your using's refresh rate. This way they sync.

I bumped into that on the forums I linked to. Maybe that's what you're looking for?

I have Truly eaten my words my friends, i bought the game today, immersed my self without surround and was fukin freaked out when the hell rage began.

Currently i am trying to find my way back to HQ, and the game has me freaked out lol, esp when the glowy hand creatures came at me( sorry i don't know the name =P). Ill post pics when i can its in medium quality running smooth as buttah at

iv played doom 3 today for the first time and i must say im not impressed.its dark so damn ****ing dark you cant even enjoy the graphics,of course i cheated to see all weapons and there were only a few and without secondary functions and except the chainsaw there werent any especially funny or cool ones.you cant splatter enemys and corpses they immediately disappaer if shoot at corpses,so the chainsaw isnt that much fun at all.compared to other games like far cry you cant drive vehicles or there arent any special gravity things.well in my opinion its just an old school horror shooter with bombastic graphics and nothing special besides that.
