Technology has evolved so much, that normal citizens are capable of military warfare. Hell, a 17 year old dramatized kid could be building a nuclear bomb capable of destruction that could whipe out a city block... and hiding it in the room untill one day he gets pissed off and KABOOM! takes out him and everyone around him.

Pretty soon guns will be in the home of everyone. From adults, to even more teens, to even kids running around strapped and pulling triggers on their teacher for making them sit out during recess.

We're just slowly terring each other apart with everything that we can. Things that was built for defense, has been leaked and used for revenge. You can't even turn on the news anymore before going "Local man has been killed today in a shooting incident. This marks the 79th homicide of the year in the Henrico area alone."

It's not just the people, it's also the system. Two crimes could be commited the same day, and the same ammount of damage, both could have eye witnesses... both could be caught on camera. And the one who has the richest lawyer basically gets less time. The system is all screwed up. They pull people over for dro... but turn around and sell it back to the streets for extra cash in their wallet. It's stupid...

woah... i just noticed i went off topic lol

*Edit*
I agree with you Hwoarang... without technology.. we'd be slowly whiped out. Not everyone know how to kill an animal with their bare hands, skin it, and fry it over a fire long enough to be eaten for dinner. Not that much people know how to defend themselves when a wolf or fox jumps out the woods and go medievil on their ass and just start rippng their fresh apart. Now all humans know how to do is say "HELP ME I"M BEING ATTACKED!"... hell... even most people are scared of a harmless dog... let alone a bear or wolf... or even a fox.

If there's someone who is "totally evil," and wants to kill as many people as he/she can, they are obviously limited in potential by the most devastating weapon available.

If nuclear weapons aren't available, or any weapons of mass destruction, the most he/she can do is go on a killing rampage with a bazooka or some such weapon.

The more devastating a technology is that is available, the higher chance that many, many people can be annihilated by a single person. That's why we as a society, try to make nuclear weapons so hard to obtain.

Because we all know there's loads of people, who hate the Western world, who would die to get their hands on them.
i think someone is confusing the cause of violence with the means to carry out that violence

the gun or the missle does not make the person evil and do evil things which means that the technology is not whats evil its the people willing to use that technology to carry out their goals

Well i know for sure without technology we wouldnt have cures for many diseases, or any knowledge about history. And alot of people would get pissed cause they couldn't watch Roseanne on nick at nite. God, that would be an outrage!

Think about it, no planes, no 9/11. No bombs, not nearly as effective warfare, no guns, etc. Battles just couldn't be fought if every technology was wiped out starting right now.
Technology didn't prevent the blood thristy civilizations like the Barbarians, the Huns, Vikings, Goths, etc from ravishing places all over the world. Technology didn't stop Rome from being destroyed. Technology didn't stop the Egyptians from being ravished by the Persians. I could go on and on. Technology doesn't start wars, the people do.

Lack of technology never prevented humanity from flourishing. Humanity did not start when the first gun was invented. Humanity could survive now without computers and grocery stores just as they could four thousand years ago.

It all depends on how you look at the word, if you see technology as something that gets power, or is a gun or cannon, then obviously we could manage without these things. If you see technology as swords, knives, or the ability for us to think 'Hey, maybe if I mold that block into the shape of my head, maybe it'll do something cool like roll down a hill,' then obviously we would not be able to survive, because your not just getting rid of technology, your getting rid of the ability for us to think of new inventions or technology.

right in the end all technology is nothing but a tool to be used by humans to be used for what they wish be it good or evil but that doesnt suddenly mean the technology itself is at blame

its like the whole violent video games make children do violent things people just pass blame on from themselfs onto other things so they dont feel guity for not paying attention to what their children are doing or if their actions will cause a mass global war

Technology started with the first bone tool, or, if you go by most scientists views on evolution, sticks and stones were the first forms of technology.

Without any technology man kind would have never gotten past day 1

Without modern technology IE electricity and machinery, humans could survive, and would probably continue to be the dominant species on earth, but life would be pretty rough, and many would die...a new "Natural Selection" if you will.

Technology was made to make the things we did before easier. A natural evolutionary step, really. Instead of our bodies adapting over time...our minds adapted to develop countermeasures to our own needs. Small Example: in cold climates, there aren't hairier humans...there are humans who wear more clothing.

I think we'd be much better off at least if the internet had an age limit.

Assuming the kid could get fissionable quality nuclear material.. Something that terrorists can't even get their hands on, with massive amounts of money.. A shooting incident isn't military warfare.

A supply creates a demand, and a demand creates a supply. There have always been people willing to use force to accomplish their goals, and desire the most lethal weapons available--the more lethal weapons available, the more danger there is.

If there's an insane person who wants to kill as many people as possible, yet the most lethal weapon in existence is a knife, he's not going to be able to kill as many people as say, if he acquired a nuclear arsenal.

Well, it's not so much that a lack of technology PREVENTED flourishing, but the discovery of the cultivation of Rice(a technology) led to the booming flourish of eastern Asia. There's many such incidences of a technology causing a society to flourish, but more precisely what you said is "lack of technology never prevented humanity from flourishing." Partially true.. Humanity was severely limited from flourishing in it's purely gathering stage. With no tools to hunt, I imagine humans were quite vulnerable, and perhaps wouldn't have survived without tools/weapons.

Finally, to reiterate for Hibiki--You are both right and wrong. The existence of a weapon is not what causes people's desire to use it, however it's human nature to want the 'best' of something available. The quickest, most efficient way to accomplishing your goal.

If you want to kill a massive amount of people, you're going to aim for the most lethal weapon available--which is currently fission-based nuclear weapons. If they didn't exist, people would aim for biological or chemical weapons. And if those didn't exist, people would aim for conventional explosive weapons, and if those didn't exist, people would aim for conventional guns, and if not those, the finest swords, the finest bones, etc..

People will use what is at their disposal, and if it's not, and they know about--they'll try to get it.

Actually, humans used to technology to survive more efficiently. Without fire (technology) the wheel (technology) and basically engineering nature and the planet to their needs, we would have eventually starved to death.

Look at parts of Africa, and other countries that are shut outside the world of technological evolution.

no my arguement is not wrong just because a person wishes to use a weapon for an evil cause doesnt mean its suddenly a weapon of evil

look at nuclear weapons they are used 100% as a threat deterrence now yet acording to ur arguement they are an evil weapon because one person somewhere wishes to use them for evil?

i fail to see how the person useing a weapon suddenly means that every one of them is an evil weapon that exists for the sole reason to kill everyone in the universe

the weapon availiable doesnt make people less evil or less violent it just determans what they can use to extend their violence on others

if the only weapons around were knives and a killer wanted to kill everyone he could go train with a knife and become the best in the world and then he could kill everyone else because no one is as good as him with a knife

its no different than any other weapon

the person using the weapon for evil is the evil one not the weapon itself an inanimate object cannot be good or evil as its nothing but a tool to be used by people

if u put a bunch of guns in a room together they arnt gonna start a mafia or declare war on each other or any other evil activity

Hibiki and Deverz are right that a weapon itself is not inherently evil, nor good, just a tool, and that the actions it is used to perform reflect on the nature of the person weilding the tool, not the tool itself. And unless i read something wrong, Alea agrees with this.

Alea (at least as far as i understood), was saying having technology such as nuclear weaponry, or the high tech guns would lead people to greater acts of evil and violence. This doesn't necessarily mean that the weapons themselves are to blame, and she never said that. And i agree with her. Whenever there is a better or faster way to do something, people will want it. And that includes ways to kill other people. so while the weapons themselves aren't evil, they provide people with a way to perform larger scale evil deeds, should that desire be present.

I would never think tech. has made us more evil. Evil rests within us. That being said...I sure as hell think there should be better gun control in the US.

Actually, nothing. Humans started out as an evolved form of chimps, with no technology. We developed it ON THE WAY, like I said.

We wouldn't have starved to death because our population would not have been able to expand without technology to the point where food would be insuffecient.

I never said weapons used by evil people, are inherantly evil. I said, there have been and always will be, people who wish to use weapons, who will automatically want the most lethal weapon. This is SIMPLE to understand. I never SAID the lethality of the weapon determines the amount of "EVIL" a person has.

People always want the MOST of something. The MOST destructive. The MOST powerful. The stronger the strongest is, the more DANGEROUS those "evil people" BECOME.

And no, I'm sorry, but someone could not become "so good with a knife" that "no one else in the world would kill him."

Why? Because you could have five HUNDRED people surround that single person, and I guarantee you he'd die. He wouldn't become "so good" with it, because he'd die far before getting to that impossible Matrix-like level.

WEAPONS HAVE NO ALIGNMENT. They are neither evil or good, however PEOPLE, the ones who are either good or evil, WANT the strongest weapons.

I have made this SO clear, that not even you could possibly mistake what I'm saying for a fourth time.

Put 100 guns in a room where people live and die, and eventually a person will be born with the intention/predisposition to kill the others.

@Zarius--Thank you. At least somebody understood that having more destructive weapons available leaves the possibility for wide-devastation more, than if simply 'knives' were available.

What are you trying to say here? Humans were using tools long before the first homo sapien was born. In fact, Homo Habilis(first true human) were the very first tool makers. This was the start of the stone age and the start of man creating weapons to defend themselfs from sabre-toothed tigers/cave lions whatever... Without this ability none of us would be here. Techonolgy or rather our ability to create and use it=our savour.

lol, what a stunning rebuttal:rolleyes:. However, I believe that certain aspects of technology has withered the human race in to extreme laziness. The result is obesity that is growing faster then a weed on Miracle Grow. These facts are from the U.S.

# 58 Million Overweight; 40 Million Obese; 3 Million morbidly Obese
# Eight out of 10 over 25's Overweight
# 78% of American's not meeting basic activity level recommendations
# 25% completely Sedentary
# 76% increase in Type II diabetes in adults 30-40 yrs old since 1990

I will not say that Tech. has not helped us out in many ways, but certain parts ot it have really made an impact to our overall physical health.
