Copy your old .CFG out of what's left of your half life folder into Steam if you moved the files. If you didn't I would suggest manually reassigning the keys through the options menu. If that doesn't work it is a Steam related error, and not ESF.

well you see, i wouldn't have had any problems manually reassigning the keys -- except when i go into the keyboard controls from the options menu, there isn't anything there!!

ummm open up the cfg and set up the binds
i don't know the names for all of them! or, more accurately, any of them not counting movement! why can't someone just post their config.cfg? :( :( :(

I have this problem too. :( I asked my friend to send me his config.cfg file, but it does nothing at all, it's like Steam doesn't even see it. In the options, under Keyboard, there is nothing at all.

I found a solution(somewhat) to this problem. What you need to do is take the config.cfg out of you Half Life folder and copy it into the ESF folder. Unfortunatly, since the HL config only does HL commands, you wont be able to do any ESF commands (fly, tele, block, etc.) BUT you should now have the BASIC commands like jump, move, chat, fire, etc. Maybe someone in the server could help you get the rest fixed. Hope that helps.

Did anyone figure out yet how to get all the other commands back? Or, can someone tell me what to bind to where?

All I did to fix this problem was go into my esf steam folder and rename the file config to userconfig.

For example; I have esf for Steam installed in here:
E:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\half-life\esf

In there was a file called config.cfg and by renaming it to userconfig.cfg all my keys are binded.

Can someone just post the binds please? I need a copy of someone's config file because I lost my binds.

*EDIT* Renaming my config.cfg into userconfig.cfg, or just HAVING a file named userconfig.cfg causes Half-life to lock up while it's opening the game.

I am having the exact same problem.
I renamed my config.cfg into userconfig.cfg, the game opens, I want to bind my controls, so I click options, and BLAM, it locks up :(

Whoever can mail their config.cfg to me will receive a cookie...
that or my eternal gratitude...

And I so liked ESF... :(

Heh, for me, it locks up immediately after opening the game. I don't even get the menu before it freezes. I've even gone as far as to try and install ESF someplace else and transfer the config.cfg into my steam esf folder. Out of all my mods, I have the most problem with ESF, stability wise. I don't know why.

Well for some reason I can walk around and stuff, now to find out which are the commands to block, fly, power-up (ki rebuilding), transformation and teleport.
They might be in the sticky topics, but I have *NO* clue what the correct command is, as it is not explained (I DO know that 'fly' is the HALF LIFE command 'fly' not ESF fly) >_<

If someone could post this, I would go all 'whee' and stuff like that >_>

Anyway, to see what the correct command is, do this in the console of ESF

bind <key to what you have bound the command>
This will display the correct command.
So if you have bound transformation to z, the command would be:
bind z

nothing else.

5 minutes of work and would help out most of us problem-guys ^_^

Oh a hint for some people:

If you OPEN the config.cfg, you might see a line with 'unbindall'... no need to say you will have to remove that line eh?

you know, it wouldn't take that long for someone to post their config.cfg file here. I mean, someone, for the love of god, spend a little time to send us their config file, please? It would help so much.

unbindall should be the first entry in your config.cfg (so don't remove it) ... and under this, it rebinds all keys ...
if I don't forget it, I'm going to add my config in here, when I'm back at home
just make it readonly, before you try to modify it with steam ...

[edit]
here are the first few entries of my config.cfg (only the binds)
but I have to tell you, that I'm using an almost completely different config, than the ESFs default ;) ... but you asked for it

Seeing how I was able to move (moving, strafing, jumping shooting, just no teleport, ki rebuild, transform, fly or radar) AFTER I removed unbindall, I'd say to remove it >_>

But thanks anyway, as soon as it is posted, I will pray for the bots to come out hehe >_>
Stupid steam... good concept, not worked out correctly

**Edit**
Thanks for the binds, now i can play again! WHEE! *gives cookie and eternal gratitude*

I coppied down your binds and as soon as i typed in bind "a" "+moveleft" it compleatly changed the config to what yours is now and I can't power up, fly, change class or anything besides move, attack, and change attack. Could someone post the default config?
