Seeing as the title explains itself i just need to add a few more things to it. If i wanted to buy a ps2 or X-box which one should i buy and please list reasons why you pick one over the other and no "i like xbox because its in the shape of X" type comments.

i'd keep you company opti but you probably dont want it =p

I like the xbox. It's system is powerful. It has a built-in hard drive so theres basically no use for memory cards unless you want to transfer files from xbox to xbox. Ps2 is good as well, but it's capabilities are limitied. You need a memory card with only like 100 blocks and games take up 16 a piece. *Well at least the ps2 one i have only holds like 120*. While xbox holds like 50k on it's own. Let's not mention the graphics. Sure they are the same on some games, but most that are built for that specific engine, X-BOX whipes ps2 out. *Dead or Alive is just an example* I have both systems so I dont really care. But i have more games for XBOX than i do for PS2. The only thing i do not like about xbox is the huge controlers. But i found a mini one that fit my palm size for 30 bucks. Quiet affordable if you ask me.

Xbox get's my vote.

Xbox. Why, Better graphics, HDTV support (Which is what I need for my 43" WideScreen. :D), easy setup of network games, and some of the best games are coming out on Xbox soon (Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Halo 2). ;)

PS2,because it has more good games. Xbox has great games(halo), but the ps2 has a greater variety of good games

I already have a PS2 so i'd hardly buy another - i'd get a Xbox purely for the Dead Or Alive series.

I have all 3 next gen consoles, and x-box is best by far.
Has the best controller (the newer smaller one and the only one that doesn't either hurt my finger or give me cramp in my palm), great graphics, thanks to its larger system spec. The built in hardrive is awesome (i've saved tonnes of cd's, downloaded loads off the internet and have saved over 20 games worth of stuff, and i still have 50'000+/50'000+ blocks left)
Now, my favorite thing about it is x-box live. Heck, PS2 online may be free, but its, put simply, crap. When i have my mates from school on x-box live with me, i find it much more enjoyable than i ever find online pc games (and the fact everyone has headsets and can speak to you makes it a great experience each time you go on)

Ps2 has a lot more great games and the X-Box has some great games(just not as much)

I'd buy both.. ****, why not get the best of both worlds?

i have both and i must say this.
if you realy going for the rasing games like f1 and rally then take the xbox, the gamepad is bigger and the loading time is faster.
for a action/advanture game like kingdom heards or final fantasy the the ps2 is better.
but the ps2 is realy not made for fighting games, there is the xbox better becopurs the playables of the game is smoother and the xbox can handle mutch bigger games then the ps2.
to get it all in one line:
ps2:
-more games
-is best made for actio/advanture games.
-little gamepad(for the smal hand)
-starts slower then all consoles(was tested ones on the e3)
xbox:
-verry high cfx
-for the real die hard
-big gamepad(for more grip)
-starts fast
ad some if i forgotten some

Xbox is the best. The game collection is now better than the PS2's in my opinion. The only thing the PS2 has going for it is MGS3, DMC3 and San Andreas, all except DMC will probably be ported to the Xbox at some point. The game collection for the PS2 is good, but most of those good games are either multiplatform and look better on Xbox, or have been ported over to the Xbox (GTA games for example).

I say that buying a PS2 at this point is pretty much a waste, especially when you can get an Xbox for not far off the same price.

Xbox = better gf/ harddrive - great games playstation have a few good games the xbox doesn't but most of the best games are out on the xbox, playstation has more games as it has alot of crap games on it lol. Xbox live! kicks ass! you have to pay for it but its cheap and what u get with it is worth it. Hmm some of the games on the xbox that make it worth while:

Halo
Halo 2
Sudeki
Crimson Skies
Unreal Championship 2

Just a few games that come to mind.

This will turn into a flame fest. But i will list my reasons why i think xbox is better.

1) Ninja gaiden
2) Less load times.
3) better graphics.
4) Ninja gaiden

Lets look at some of the lineup for ps2.

Devil may cry 3.
Kingdom hearts 2 *cant wait*

Xbox.

Fable...going to be one of the best action rpgs of all time. Bow before this.
BC another great game.
halo 2. Just look at it
kotor 2. :)

Point is. Xbox had a very slow start. But...xbox>ps2 in almost everyway. Only thing i looking forward to on ps2 is kingdom hearts 2.

Now dont get me wrong. ps2 has some great games. But xbox game lineup is going to blow away ps2 unless they pull out something great.

Granted PS2 has more games, but the quality of 60% of them are extremely poor, plus the graphics are even poorer.

XBox all da way!

Since I am a firm believer that graphics don't make the game (which is why I still go hunting for SNES games), I'd have to say PS2 from a purely personal standpoint. For me, it's just that I prefer the variety of games PS2 has over Xbox...that's really about it. If I had the money, I'd get the Xbox as well when it comes out with games more suited to my tastes...that would give me all 3 next gen consoles, but I just don't have the money for that kind of expenditure...so, for now, my vote goes to PS2, just because that's where my tastes are.

You know, Majin_You brought up a very good point. What I find sad about today's gamers is that most of us are blinded by shiny graphics and what not. Actually, people who play ESF probably arent those types of gamers, but theyre out there and theres plently of em. The only reason I dont like the Xbox is because the console itself is huge, plus the controllers I remember playing with were bulky and clumsy. Plus, IMO it had a few too many buttons in a few too unreachable places. (Not take me literaly, you could reach it, but it wasnt too easy to go from one to the other quickly if you needed too.) I like the PS2 because its smaller, more compact and has just as many good games. PS2 doesnt really have that "oh it has better games" thing going for it anymore, but IMO the gameplay is plainly better on the PS2. Plus, its about time that the Xbox got better games, except that PS3 is supposed to come out in 2005, which aint too far away. And when it comes to PS2 or Xbox2, well, personally Id go for PS3 because Microsoft are gonna go for building their own chips this time and since its the first time theyre doing it for the Xbox, well, lets just say that Sony has paired up with IBM and some other company (Probably just a big nice bonus, because IBM kicks ass.) to make their own chips this time, and they got that whole "cell" thing going on.

Bah, what the hell am I talking about? Right now Id say save your money and wait a year or so. However if you must buy a console right now, you gotta ask yourself:

"Am I going for higher specs and better graphics, or easier and better gameplay?"

I love Majin_You's point, and I think Maddox said it best,
Saying the Xbox is a good system because it's powerful is like saying you made a great painting because you used the best set of paints.
I prefer the PS2 personally because it has more games I want to play. I prefer the controller layout, and I don't mind loading times, how lazy can you possible be?
