I think the problem is that low-ping players just get upset when high-pingers whine and moan about their latency all the time (as the thread starter indicated). It's only natural that they would want to defend themselves and preserve their playing credibility/skill by asserting that ping doesn't matter; it's all about skill, timing, speed blah blah.
I think everybody just needs to accept the fact that ping matters, andthat there's no point in whining about if yours is particularly bad. That's just the nature of online gaming folks.
