I decided I'd try to attach my guitar model to the ESF Trunks model in place of his sword for fun. So, I deleted the sword, placed the guitar there instead, attached it to the proper joint, added a skin for the guitar, exported the whole bunch as an SMD (Trunks-Sword.smd), and compiled the QC to make an MDL. However, for some reason the guitar skin doesn't show up in Milkshape's compile log, and the endresult is an invisible model. What's wrong??

make sure the skin file is a bmp file and\or in 256 colors (indexed mode I suppose)
this isnt really in compiling a model, which is already compiled as you say, just skins problem
just as well you can run HL Model Viewer and import into the slot with the skin of the sword the right skin that you want...

Alright, it worked! Thanks man.

:D

Please note the guitar skin was just a quicky to try out skinning and is nowhere near being finished.

Also, I won't release this model, since it also was just a quick tryout.
