Based on what I'm reading, Croatia declared independence in 1991. However, the Serbian population of Croatia was against Croatia's independence as was Yugoslavia. This eventually sparked the Croatian War of Independence. Croatian Serbs sided with Yugoslavia and in a combined effort tried to take control over Croatia and make it part of Serbia. However, the Croatian army were able to drive Yugoslav and Croatia Serb forces out of Croatia. This was another event/conflict in which Serbians were accused of genocide. Also the United Nations was involved in this war, but it doesn't appear they were involved directly in the fighting.
