Does anyone know how to do a poly count?

Go into the "Utilities" tab in the upper right corner (the one that looks like a hammer) and click "more".

There should then be a utility in the list that pops up called "polygon counter". It shows you your poly count based on seleted object/s and by all polys in the scene. There's also an option to show how many polys or how many triangles.

That should help :) You can also use it to set your poly budget in case you're trying not to go above a certain number of polys. The guage will then change so that the more the bar is filled up, the closer you are to reaching your poly budget. A good tool for the frugal modeller.

@Jinx: Maybe you and J-Dude have different versions of 3ds Max. I think that is your problem.

in 3dsm9 I don't think there is a polygon counter anymore, just press 7 (or is it 9?) in the perspective window, and you'll get a nifty little read out saying how much polygons it is, fps etc.

remember, if you're in edit poly, you get POLYGON readouts (quads)

if you're in edit mesh, you get TRIANGLE readouts (tri's)

He doesn't seem to like the idea that you're using warez. Something about being honorable or ethical or some such stuff like that...

Well as long as he doesn't post crack/keygen links, I don't see the problem. o_O

If he wants to crack it, it's his problem. It's not like autodesk is gonna go bankrupt. >_>

But then again, I do understand the ethical and honest stuff... all I know is that if I have a cheaper way of getting something, I'll take it.

Sorry, that's just me. =/

And Jinx, for the love of you know what, PLEASE post wireframes!!! JUST HIT F4!!!

i apologize for the short post, it was much longer but it was deleted by onslaught.

it seems he, (apparently the ONLY person on this forum who has never used pirated software) doesnt like it when you mention his own shady software usage.

post edited: we'll talk about this in private ~ gir

gee thanks =/, my post wasnt in violation of the AUP, and you edit it completely because it revealed some things about your software history that conflicts with your "crusade" against piracy

oh thats really fair

Ok, a 15-yr-old kid wants to learn how to model, and he's restraint from it because he happens to be too young to have a job or his daddy doesn't want to give him money?

I mean, nowadays, a 15-yr-old (hell, at least at this community) is most likely a synonym of a kid interested in digital artwork. Be it modelling, animating, photoshopping, etc.

If you have the money, buy it. If you don't, well... tough for autodesk/adobe/whatever. Why? Simply because there are other ways.

When you get your autodesk certificate/diploma, go for it. Buy it. Buy 10 legal copies or buy all versions for that matter.

But until then, it's hardly relevant/necessary.

Although yeah, keeping the forums clean is pretty much required, just don't overreact ^^.

I mean, I've never seen a rule that says: "Don't claim to have warez." There's no crime in that. =/ Who gets affected by that? No one, just the person using that/those warez.

But yeah, this is getting really off-topic. Jinx, your model is looking very good, but you need to post w-i-r-e-f-r-a-m-e-s! Just hit F4! How hard can that be?!?! T_T

discussion of warez, period, is not allowed.

and for the record, that wasn't actually the reason why i'm not gonna help anymore.

the reason i'm not gonna help, is because everyone is being ignored by him.

I'd rather not further derail the topic, so I'll just pretend I'm not interested in the alterior conversation...

Anyway Jinx, all you have to do for wireframes is hit F4 in a viewport, and then hit alt+print screen to take a screenshot. The screenshot will be in your temporary files ready for you to paste into paint or photoshop. Just adjust the image size, save as a .jpg and upload it here.

<_<....

K lemmie say this, so im not " ignoring " people anymore.

The reason why i haven't posted wires is because ide rather tough it out and figure things out on my own @ first ^^ , instead of taking the e z way...

This way ill remember and understand the program better ...

but sometimes ill prolly hit a wall and need help which is why i made this thread.. If everyone wants wires so bad they'll have to wait until im finito =P or I get stumped T_T on how to smooth something out, or n e thing else =o requiring wires to help x.x ^^
