YAY! I can help you out there
Instructions:
- I suggest putting the model you wont to open in a seperate folder
- create a new folder, name it what you want, and put your model in it
- open milkshape
- Go to Tools> Half-Life>decompile Normal HL MDL file
- find the model you want to open, when you find it click open
- milkshape will decompile the model so you can open it in milkshape
- once its done decompiling [approx. 30 sec.] Go to File>import>Half-Life SMD
- Find the .SMD file in the model folder for the model you just decompiled
a. Example: If you decompiled a model called "goku.mdl" look for the .SMD file called "goku.smd"
b. You will notice many other .SMD files in the model folder, There is one model .SMD file and the rest are ANIMATIONS
c. If you are just editing a model or reskining a model, you do not need to worry about the animation .SMD files.
Once you are done editing the model, you will need to put it all back together. You will need to export you your model to Compile it. Here are the instructions
Instructions:
- Go to File>Export> Half-life SMD
- Find the MODEL .SMD file that you originally Imported
- Double Click On the .SMD file to Over-Write it
- Now your ready to compile it
Now That you have exported your .SMD file you are ready to compile, but before you do, make a Back-Up of the .MDl file [the model].Right Click the Model File and click copy, the right click it and paste it in another folder. Now We are set, and here are the compiling instructions:
Instructions:
- Go to Tools>Half-Life>Compile QC File
- Now if you are in the folder where you Decompiled your model, you will see a file named after your model
- Double Click It
- It will take approx. 45 sec to complete the compiling process
- once its done, go back into your Model folder and And Find your Model File [.MDl]
