Esf steam ''out of range''

I bought half-life 1 and when i launch esf or half life i get black box with message ''out of range''. I use windwos 7. How to solve this?

Apparently, you are using a resolution or refresh rate that is not supported by your monitor. You will have to change your resolution or refresh rate in a config file if you can't get in the game anymore. Not sure what the config file was called though, I'll try to find it, or maybe someone else knows.

Edit:

Can't seem to find the config file that holds the resolution. Anyway, try this:

1. Open Steam
2. Go to Library
3. Right click on ESF
4. Click properties
5. Click Launch Options
6. Then type:
-w 1024 -h 768
7. Click ok, start game

Change -w and -h to your resolution if you want to. It may be possible that you need to repeat these exact steps for the Half Life game as well, seeing as how they share settings.

You MUST buy Half Life in order to play ESF:F. ESF:F will NOT work with a cracked version.

Did you change Windows' resolution, or Half Life's and ESF's? Because you only need to change the resolution of both Half Life and ESF.

Stop being a cheapass. As for the rest, sounds like a monitor issue more than anything. Like they said, you were probably trying to run it in a mode not supported by your monitor. You should try to find out what is supported by your monitor (I think there's a way to do that in windows where you set your desktop res)
