Cant really say it was a mistake, its just that life happened. Im pretty certain it would have been similar if the other option was voted.

But god knows how i miss this place. Sadly i dont really have time anymore outside of about a few minutes round midnight, which are usually used up checking on e-mails :)

Who is going to play this game after 50 years bro? We will all be dead by then....be serious. When a game takes to long because a big company like Rockstars work behind a game, you know that they take that time to make the game better and they have all the resources, but this game take alot because the people that work on it don;t really have time to make the game and also they are just a handfull of people doing it...there is no one interested in a game that will be to old and will look to old to even play after 10+ years from now....tell me, is there anyone here that still plays esf 1.3 on a daily basis? No, because you have alot of other games that look 100 times better and have a lot of content. Look, I understand that most are just melancholic about this game but hey....it's too long already and what goes will never come back again as much as we want it. Even this forum is dead...people move on and those that are young don't even know about this game and this project. When it's going to release, finally, after 10+ years from now, it will die in the next few months like most of the game do now if they are not well done or the game has no attractivness to what people search in that time. We used to like single player games until games like pubg came along, fortnite and so on, people play more multiplayer games now than ever and you have so much options that you can't even play all....so...what's the point on working on something that you do not have time for and that takes to much to even count?
lol, I was sarcastic.
At this point the people that are still active in the comunity care much more about the comunity itselfh as a hub for freetime/fuckaround more than the project.
I have the feeling that they prefer to delay any substantial progress because once finished they could lose their "happy place".

The world forever turns again and again. Don't worry, 20 years from now you'll have all the time in the world to play Earth's Special Forces again. :p

I too am married with kids now, but the love for ESF still persists. I feel like when we do see that big release there will be a pretty big inflow of interest from special media.

Being the oldest mod is a pretty fun novelty I think will spark a bunch of Youtube and Tiktok vids.

I was a teenager when I first played this. I am now entering my 40's... I drop around to the website about roughly once a year to check on any updates.. Most of the time it's minimal/non-existent... Yes I am on discord, not much happens there either, well... Publicly anyway.
Decades of promises is all we have had, If Esforces is just a sandbox with a bunch of characters and moves, then it's really not representative of decades of development.
I get that it's a passion hobby project, but there gets a point where change needs to be made to complete the project, otherwise it's just vaporware, the community has already (for the most part) moved on from when this forum was lively with activity and discussion and ideas.

I personally believe (Strongly!) that the current staff should open the mod up as an "open source" kind of project to expedite development and just be the curators of the appropriate assets.
It's worked for Skywind and Skyblivion... Mods that are orders of magnitudes larger, more complex and completed in a fraction of the time as Esforces... The community got behind them, the community supported them, the community built the game.

Maybe it's just a fools dream. But I would like to play the envisaged game while I am still alive. (Which almost ceased 2 years ago in an accident, but I digress.)

Just food for thought. I'll check for replies next year.

The charm of ESF has always been the open form exploration and mayhem of deathmatch.

There definitely won't be a story mode, and I don't know what game mode they could include other than Collect the dragonballs which was always unpopular outside the RP element.

At the end of the day we'll be seeing an updated ESF with modern gameplay and graphics for this coming release. We'll see it goes anywhere after that.

Same here, even got 2 kids.

Its obvious that the team has picked up other interests, which I dont blame them for. It was a long time coming, never committing to deadlines will cause procrastination. If they want to give the mod any shot they need to opensource it.

The first step for resolving a problem it's admitting it.
They don't.

Back in March 25 2012 , Mastasurf made a post asking the community if they'd rather have the mod release in 2 phases (wich would imply an early release) or just wait for the full release.
I was one of the few who just wanted an early release, knowing that this way, the team would have better incentives for working on it long term.
Most people chose the full release-once-it's-done.

Welp. It's been almost 13 years since that post. Hell, it's been 20 years since i discovered this in a cyber-cafe in my neighborhood in Argentina.

I know most of what's happened. Everything gathered from reading this forum and youtube videos. I know about the Sven Co-op swap, and how that must take a lot of time (that developers make in they're spare time, wich we all asume, must not be much). Sad reality is, most people have already moved on from this mod, wich is very sad actually. It very much needs a revival.

I know i know. This has been talked about a lot. But it's been more than a decade. Yet, the main site still has the ESF 1.2.3. Toriyama Tournament update and that's it. Since that post, two whole Dragon Ball shows have released, four movies, a myriad of official games, the Super manga, and Toriyama's passing. I played this while eating cookies. Now i'm thinking of buying a house. WTF.

Ask for donations. Get more people, let the community work on it. Just wrap it up guys. There's always room for ESF 1.4

With much love, gratitude, respect, little hope and a lot of patience,
Some dude.
I still remember how I had heated discussions about the phrase "It's finished when it's finished."
Even back then, I said a game is never finished, especially mods when they have active programmers. Because more and more ideas are constantly flowing in and there's always room for optimization. And how I was laughed at and torn apart and received hate from the developers and fanatics.
Now I read it and follow it casually, and I have to chuckle about it again and again because I mentioned exactly that, about the fact that we're getting older and will set different priorities, like jobs, families, children. But hey. The main thing is that people hated me with their exuberance.

Well, I'd already mentally said goodbye to the "It's finished when it's finished" attitude. And back then, I went by the name Kid-Vegeta :) Yes, a silly name. But I was young back then.

The main thing was that people had fun with the betas and demos in a closed society and fed us videos. And every year, new Dragon Ball games keep coming out. The lack of interest is just getting too great. Because the engine is too outdated and we've already had better games.

In that sense. Lol, I told you so.
