In the past week or two I have been experiencing a very annoying issue/problem in STEAM (No matter what game it is -- even Dedicated Server).
The cause seems to be random, although it occurs VERY VERY RARELY in Counter-Strike (Even thought I have hi-poly model replacements for nearly everything) but it occurs quite frequently in a Half-Life mod called Earth's Special Forces and not too often on my dedicated server (for ESF).
Here are screenshots of the error pop-ups:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have never recieved this error in the previous version of STEAM but it has been occuring in this most recent update.
Here are my specs
- Windows XP Home Edition (All Current Updates)
- 512 MB DDR (PC 2700) RAM
- AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Processor (2.083 GHz) with QuantiSpeed architecture
- NVIDIA nForce 2
- 180GB HD (Primary HD = 140 | Slave HD = 40) -> Virtual memory set on Windows Management (Both)
- NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Graphics (1 AGP 8x Slot Available) WITH LATEST DRIVERS (03/15/04)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have tried many things like defragging (with virtual memory disabled) & running a full scan disk session, as well as deleting Steam.dll and hl.exe & hlds.exe, & ClientRegistry.blob.
Also, there are no real "extra" background things running besides system things.
I scanned for viruses (Norton Anti-Virus 2004 - Updated), scanned for ad-ware/spy ware (Using both Ad-Aware & Spybot: Search & Destroy).
3-4 days ago I got a tool called WinXP Manager which I used to optomize things, clear out bad reg keys, unessesary files, etc...
My WINDOWS is set for performance, not visual eye candy mode or whatever
PLEASE HELP
