Its Arigatou ^^

Honestly, I think its a good idea. The degree to which anime is discussed in off topic is enough to warrant its own section. Previous forums I have been on have had a specific section for anime (and it usually has the second highest post rate (second to off topic)). It would be helpful for people who like anime, to find threads of related content all in one place, instead of endlessly perusing the off topic section. Further more chances are most people get into anime due to highly rerun series like Gundam Wing and Dragonball Z therefore will be searching for DBZ long before they are searching for anime (in my experience).

But is the degree really that much? HL2 is discussed just as much, if not MORE than anime... there's 4 threads dedicated to HL2 on the first page of off-topic right now, does HL2 need it's own section?

I don't really see a point, there really aren't that many anime threads. There's nothing holding people back from posting about anime in off-topic, so why do they all of a sudden need a section devoted to it?

I'm with Cuc on this one...Off-Topic is sufficient enough, imo. Such a suggestion should be equally on par with a gaming section, or a movies/TV section, as they are also both often discussed here (just saw that you posted that, SoulStriker...you and I think frighteningly alike)...HOWEVER, I, in no way, will stand in the way of the idea. Should it be implemented, I will be more than happy to help keep it clean of spam and warez and keep it enjoyable for all of the forum's anime fans.

However, at the end of the day, my vote is "No."

Of course you won't actually spam, because we both know that being a moderator means being a role model, right? ;)

the logic about off topic.... off topic is for whatever isnt for the other topic sections..... so why not get rid of em all and have an off topic and esf forum :p.....

in the end, wud it really hurt? and wouldnt it encourage the anime side of the forum? perhaps bringing new members? also people would feel more encourages to talk about anime, more interesting descussions, also just look at the peoples sigs all over this forum, not many people dont like an anime of sum kind. I think expand and capitalize on the need for this type of forum, for an anime mod, u wudda thought there wud be sumthin anime related in the forums. Wouldnt it be useful if sum1 wants to get into anime and doesnt know where to start? wouldnt it be great if u were bored, uve watched the latest naruto, u feel in the anime mood and u wanna check out another anime, why not take a look at the esf forums? how about u wanna know what ie:fma is like and u dont know where to go? just search the anime section.

basically if u want to encourage the anime side of the community then include it as a sub forum. Also as 80% of the people here like anime of sumkind, it would be well recieved and i dont think there would be a lack of use or descussion which the signature/fightclub sections suffer from. I dont see why this is even a question there are so many reasons to include it, and the most important being if its in the communities best interest. I for one enjoy anime, and descussion about anime as much of the majority of people here do, so imo it would be the best interest of the community to include a section encouraging, and also helping anime lovers. A community of anime lovers without an anime section? hmmmmmm not logical.

I mean people compare it to or tv/music, but every1 loves them, and they can all be generalised as normal everyday desscusion, hence why it belongs in off topic. However a specialist topic like anime, in a community where anime is liked, and talked about, all the character being modeled in the model section seem to be anime characters, etc, then why on earth is there nowhere for the anime desscusion? Off topic doesn't really do the job, it doesnt encourage anythin. And it isnt a place where i would turn to for information on anime, because its so damn random here. Compare it to hl2 as well, but hl2 is a contempory issue, at this point in time its something descussed alot, anime will last a lot longer, and not to mention the more diverse enthusiasm it involves.

I dont know many anime, i would like to though, as i enjoy nearly all the anime ive seen, i'd like a place to go to descover anime, to talk about wat i like and wat i dont like, a place where that type of behaviour is encouraged, because it makes sense with a community as nuts about anime as this.

Why not? Sure, It might not be the most popular discussion around here, but a fair amount of people do like it, myself included. DBZ Is an anime itself, and a lot of people who play the mod probably like anime in general as well. Maybe if it had some significant downsides to it, i'd be a little more leery, but I actaully can't think of one bad reason about having it. Plus it makes things more organized, and I like being organized.

I say yes.

[20:16:41] [@SonicVamp]: I'm trying to point out we don't need a forum for everything. We don't like having too many forums to moderate
[20:16:55] [@SonicVamp]: You could make an argument for lots of forums

and

[20:11:06] [@SonicVamp]: We already have an anime section
[20:11:09] [@SonicVamp]: It's called "Off topic"

I don't like the idea of making another splinter forum for off topic just because it 'sounds' like a good idea. Make new forums when you need to, not just when you want to. Groovy seems to think it'll help bring new members into the community, presumably because an "anime" forum would appeal more than an "off topic" forum to outsiders. Well if the word is such a big deal I suggest we just rename off topic forum to "Off topic / Anime Discussions" and then you've killed two birds with one stone.

Why do something like this? Posting it in off topic will garner every bit as much attention.

When these sections were part of their parent forums, we were flooded with complaints about the space they wasted. Thus signatures were moved out of artwork, and FF and FC moved out of off topic. To date, I have recieved no such complaint about anime threads in off topic. Keep in mind that FF and FC is actually used often, but isn't always active because of the strict posting rules.

Not that we want this to fail if it is whats wanted by both the development team and the forum goers, but all four Admins have voted no to this proposition. The additional voting senior staff has voted for (1) and 1 undecided. This does not mean that the idea is condemned, it just means that it is unsupported by the senior forum staff. It can and may be overturned by the development team. As promised, we will not stand in the way of this suggested forum.

I see the true purpose of this section as basically a haven for true and soon to become anime fans to share opinions and inform each other on new animes or old animes another user might me unaware of. Being a true hardcore DBZ fan, I hope a section like this could possibly tell me that I'm not as alone as I think I am.
This quote expresses what I feel is the general "need" for the section, knowing that if this was section was added, people would have the urge to discuss anime further than they would in maybe a 50 post thread that dies in a week. It singles out the category and would probably bring the anime crowd even closer and raise the overall knowledge and possible respect for anime to a threshold. You can't deny that there are people who like this game, but don't really know much about DBZ or anime in general.

This section is basically showing the light to novice DBZ fans, a light that tells novice DBZ fans that Toriyami's world is only the beginning.

I dont see how this would have any negative effect on this site. It would allow anime lovers to chat about... well, anime, and it would allow the esf forums to expand and attract a bigger crowd. I also dont see how this could have any negative effects. Fill me in on that, seriously.

*Edit.
Im not stupid...

On one hand, I see how you posted about an idea. On the other hand, though, I see you posted the same idea that you posted.

o_O

Ignoring your serious semantic error for the moment . . .

I'll answer the only question you posed.

No one ever said that this would be negative, only that it isn't neccesary. You confuse need and want with pro and con, which was never what this was about. New forums are usually a positive thing, and rarely negative. On the other hand, creation of new sub-forums for reasons which can best be described as "Ooooooo . . . shiney!" hardly fit into the need category.

Seriously ask yourself these two questions:

Will the forum and community die without it?
Are any pressing issues resolved with the creation of this forum?

The answer to both is no.

Essentially this forum proposal has become a hype machine that drives an illusion of need where there is none. Untill this very day, I have not recieved any request for such a forum during my tour as administrator of this message board.

All of the other forum additions were driven by need rather than want.

But the real question cuc, is how much does it hurt to put in this new forum? What are the costs of making a sub section for anime? It does alleviate some things, and organize a bit, while yes it isn't a necessity, what harm comes from doing it? I don't know if there is more bandwidth use from it or anything like that, but I don't think you will have a problem finding mods to run the section, and I think that it would make some people happy. That is why I vote yes.

The whole point of adding an Anime Section is to discuss anime with the forum-base HERE. If they/he/we/I wanted to go just go to the AnimeSuki forums, we could. But the moderators there (no offense if you like them) don't do their jobs well, and things get spoiled all the time.

I have much more faith in the moderators of this forum, and while there are many stupid children here, there are many excellent posters as well. You never know, making an anime section might stir the interest of one Pc Joe, anime-loving extraordinaire.
