Clouds of billowing dust and smoke circled and whirled around the young Saiyan, his vision severly impaired not only by the wall of debris, but the blood that now flowed freely over his youthful face. He stood now slumped to one side, knees bent as he struggled to remain upright. One eye refused to open, as if it were glued shut by his thick warm blood. A sudden pain shot through his body and sent him to his knees. Crying in agony as he fell, he raised his head nad let out an agonizing scream. Never before had the great grandson of the legendary Goku felt this kind of pain. It did not seem real.

The dust was blown back violantly at that instant, sent twisting and bending in all directions, revealing a floating glowing figure a few feet before him. The yellow light spilled out all around him, enveloping him in its warm yet menacing embrace. His wounds cried out as they were widened and torn further, his blood beginning to float weightlessly around him instead of falling to the shattered earth.

'A pitiful sight," began the figure, "A Saiyan of such great lineage beaten within an inche of his pathetic life in less than a minute. Such a waste of my precious time."

The blinding light receeded allowing Goken to see his assailant. It was a slender young man, floating effortlessly in his loose black pants and red sweatshirt. His spikey brown hair was styled randomly about his head, not like any Saiyan he had ever seen. He simply did not look strong enough to be as powerful as he was. It just could not be real!

"Who are you?!" Goken demanded, doing his best to stand straight and appear more imposing, despite his obvious injuries. "Why have you done this?"

"I am one of many," began the young man, amused by Goken's effort to retain his already battered ego, "You and your kind will see a lot more of us in the coming days, Saiyan."

"I don't understand!" cried Goken, bowing his head as he felt the surrounding wind and light intensify. "I don't understand..."

"You don't need to." came the reply, shortly after Goken's body was disintigrated by the energy that rushed from the young assailant's hand. "We will rise again, and take our place as the dominating force of this world and all the worlds that surround it. Our time has come. We will bring ruin to all who oppose us."

A calming wind blew by, carrying with it the distinctive smell of flame and death. The youth looked to the sky and thought aloud.

'The second Android Saga has begun."

Note to the reader: This was written on the spot based on an idea that has been brewing and festering in my mind for the past few weeks. I will write more as it strikes me. All criticism would be appreciated, as I admitably know very little of the Dragonball storyline. Inform me of inconsistancies or obvious mistakes if you see them. Thank you.

What do you guys think?

I'm of the belief that DBZ can be a lot better if they stop thinking it's a kids show. There's a lot of talking when they should be fighting, hundreds of scenes have been edited to the point where the original work is hidden away behind puffs of smoke or deleted entirely, dialogue is dumbed down to sluggish and boring tempos.

Hopefully my fanfic will be much different. Straight to the good stuff. Hoo-ha!

Thank you for the encouragement, b4k4^2.

Aya sat up in the soft grass and set her hands lazily at either side, holding herself up as she stared thoughtfully at the blue summer sky. The sun poked it's bright yellow face from behind the single cloud that dared clutter the perfect sky, beaming it's warmth down upon her pale skin.

It had been five long months since Goken's mysterious death. She never understood how or why he had come to such a sudden and terrible fate, but she had spent the better part of the last weeks months coming to accept the death of her lover. It simply did not seem real to her, that the man she loved most was suddenly dead. How does anyone cope with a loss like that? Where do they begin?

She stretched her slender arms up into the air, interlocking her fingers and arching her back as she roused her body from the slumber she was previously enjoying. Propping her hands behind her back on the ground and tilting her head as she stared ahead.

The view was quite beautiful, if one could ignore the pain and suffering that millions of people had endured to create the ruins of these human cities. She sat on the outskirts of what used to be Aranous City, the capital of some forgotten nation. Decimated centuries ago by some disaster, it's many spires and towers stood as a silent reminder of the former glory of the human race.

Somehow these ruins reminded her of him. So strong and powerful, yet so beautiful and gentle. But she had no time to tread on the issue any longer, she was already late for the gathering below.

She rose slowly and dusted herself off. Her father would be addressing the council this evening regarding the odd occurances over the past few weeks. There were other victims just like Goken, and she was eager to hear what they had found.

"We'll find out soon, hon" she said to herself, "We'll find out who did this to you."

She gazed down the long wide fissure that split the mountain side and sighed softly to herself. She felt as if she was about to learn something she did not wish to learn. Some voice inside of her head was telling her she was not prepared for what awaited her. Still, she had resolved long ago that she would find out the truth, so that her dear sweet Goken could sleep comfortably and enjoy his never-ending dream. She took a step forward and began the steady descent, floating down into the abyss as if her slender, supple body were weightless. The young female Saiyan declined into the opening and headed for her underground that she and her kin lovingly called Fate.

Fate was a large city deep beneath the earth. Its wide expanse rolled out over the cold stoney floor and beneath the stalagtites, housing some 2,000 Saiyan men, women, and children. This was one of the largest of its kind. Many of the city's populace were the pilgrams of the great migration to Earth shortly after the Saiyan homeworld was destroyed. Many more had survived that was initially believed, but for some time they wandered aimlessly, searching for meaning and a place to start their lives over. Tired of war and weary of the outside, they saught something familiar and comfortable. For a long, long time they could not find this relief, until they felt the strength of the one known as Goku. His great power had drawn his people slowly to the planet Earth. Sadly, many did not arrive in time to meet the great warrior before his death. They remained, however, living along side the Humans thanks to the council of the remaining Special Forces of Earth.

But in recent months many strange things began to occur all around the globe. Beings of immearuable power began to appear and systematically destroy all of Earth's major settlements. Many of the great heroes of old perished as they rushed to the civilian's aid. Even many of the proud Saiyans themselves gave their lives to protect their new-found home and allies, but to no avail. Whoever these beings were, they were simply too powerful, and Earth's inhabitants were sent underground to hide from their attackers.

Aya surveyed the city as she floated calmly over it. There was much activity, likely due to the large summit being held at that moment in the town hall. Her father, one of the governing voices present at that meeting, was overseeing a recount of the most recent events. Today there was a big announcement regarding the identity of the attackers as well as plans for the future. To Aya, this was the most comforting news to be had since she was informed that her brother Dremor was one of the only survivers of the latest attack against Allay, the closest settlement to Fate.

Setting herself quickly down on the front steps of the hall, Aya hurried up and entered. Winding her way through the sea of people crowding the small hallways she soon found herself standing in a large circular room. Desks arranged about the room's circumference seated several representatives of the few surviving colonies who sat quietly listening to a large burly man who stood in the center. Holding a yellow folder filled with papers, the well rounded bearded man shouted defiantly, as if the beings that had caused them so much pain and torment could hear him.

"We, the proud and mighty Saiyan race, will not cower beneath the ground, hiding from our enemies like cowards. Not anymore! After much investigation, with the help of our human allies, we have finally determined the nature of those who haunt us every day and night. Those who slaughter our children without mercy, who burn all that we have built without a second thought. Let it be known that we now know more about our enemy than ever before. And soon, we will begin our glorious counter attack, and attain the final victory!"

Loud applause roared all about Aya as she watched her father with proud eyes. He always knew how to get his people going.
