Help me narrow down a list of games to 3 for my birthday (to go with my now-decided 360). I'm considering:

Assassin's Creed
Gears of War
Stranglehold
Grand Theft Auto IV
Ace Combat 6
Mass Effect
Devil May Cry 4

Even though I'll likely only get 2, narrow it to 3 for good measure and I'll decide which to get rid of from there.

Edit: Added DMC4. took off Bioshock, GRAW and Lost Planet.

Mass Effect, Gears of War and GTAIV. Also consider Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Dead Rising and Viva Pinata (give it a chance!).

Ah! I forgot DMC4. Already have CoD4 for PC, don't care much for Dead Rising, and Viva Pinata looks... well... I doubt I'll be playing Viva Pinata.

Elaborate on your choices with positive and negative experiences with each if you can, otherwise it voids the purpose of this thread, which is to convince me of the overall best 3 games.

Assassin's Creed - Fairly long game, especially if collecting flags is your thing. I personally really enjoy it, but it is a bit repetitive. The combat system and free-running feature really make it a lot of fun to play, at least in my opinion. Great game while listening to podcasts, too.
Gears of War - Pretty good online, but expect to get destroyed. Story mode is pretty nice, and a lot of fun when playing co-op with a friend. Also features online co-op and works very well.
Stranglehold - I've only played the demo, but it was pretty fun. Lots of shooting and context-sensitive stuff. Not as good as the others, but fun, mindless blasting.
Kane & Lynch - I played the demo and really wasn't impressed. I heard online is rather lackluster as well. I would rate this below Stranglehold.
Grand Theft Auto IV - Get this ****ing game.
Ace Combat 6 - Very sweet action flight-'sim', pretty good online too. Get it if you like blowing **** up with missiles, and shiny planes. But don't buy the expansion planes, they're ridiculously overpriced.
Mass Effect - VERY long, very good RPG. Huge ton of side quests, customizeability etc. Get it if you love epic sci-fi games, but prepare yourself to do lots and lots of riding around on barren planets in your silly little vehicle that can't do anything except shoot either its machine gun or its cannon. Oh, and it hovers. As you can tell, the Mako parts aren't my favorite thing, but everything else is pretty much awesome. Oh, and it has a few technical issues on the graphical sides, such as texture pop-in and long ass load times. And ****ing slow ass elevators.
Devil May Cry 4 - Awesome action game. If you liked DMC3, you'll probably like this.

I would personally also recommend Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Even if you didn't like the original Tomb Raider games, Anniversary is really great. It plays very fluidly and the puzzles are awesome.

Project Sylpheed is a lot of fun too, IMO. It's a great space sci-fi action game, it's a bit like Freelancer on crack and without any trading.

Um. Oh, Skate is great fun too. Beats Tony Hawk's ass a thousand times over. If you like skating games, or even if you're not a fan but feel like you might, give Skate a try. At least the demo. I'm not a skating fan, but the controls are so fluid and spot-on that I love the game to death.

Assassin's Creed, GTA4 and Mass Effect. I haven't played DMC4, but it looks like it plays exactly like the other ones so I'd pass on this.

Don't get Gears of War. Granted, I played it on my PC, but the game is incredibly short and ends abruptly. It isn't nearly as good as I was led to believe. Multiplayer mode doesn't vindicate this game for me.

Which 2 of that 3 are the best choice in your opinion? Because those are what I'm leaning toward right now.

GTA4 is a must have for me, mostly because I love open-ended games. The game itself is around 40 hours long, but if you do all of the side missions, or just **** around, you're pushing over 100 hours. There is much joy to be had in exploring NYC, regardless of what game it's in. The other two are solely up to whether or not you mind doing the same thing over and over again, and whether you enjoy rpgs. Personally, I'd go for Mass Effect. Assassin's Creed is already out on the PC, so if your rig is up to it, do what you gotta do to get ahold of it and spend your money on a game you can't play otherwise (although Mass Effect is coming out fairly soon for the PC with a few touch ups).

Were I in your position, I'd just save the money from that second game and wait for Prototype. I'm a sucker for superhero-type games.

Assassin's Creed ends really abruptly, too! Don't get me wrong, I liked it--I liked both. But Assassin's Creed, aside from the repetitive side quests, is pretty short if you go through all the assassinations quickly.

Gears is relatively short, but very high quality, I think. If you're looking for a better online multiplayer experience, though.. I'd check out COD4.

I'll respond with pros/cons of my previous list in a bit.

I would get the following three
Assassin's Creed - I loved this game. Be warned that it is repetitive and if they had some more time, it would have been much better, but it's still a great game. Jumping and climbing around the city is something you should really experience

Grand Theft Auto IV: This should be one of the three games you get. You'd be crazy to have it any other way

Ace Combat 6: Personal preference here, but I ****ing love Ace Combat. The story in this one is probably one of the worst stories I've ever heard, but it's still classic Ace Combat, thus making it a great game. Have you played any of the other Ace Combat games?

As for the rest of these games
Gears of War: Over****ingrated. It's short, and honestly, I didn't think what little of it there was was that good. Granted, I went into this game thinking it would be amazing because of what others said, but meh.

Stranglehold: What little I know about this game didn't interest me

Kane & Lynch: No

Mass Effect: You won't regret it if you get this game, but it has a few problems.

Devil May Cry 4: *shrugs* I'd wait for Ninja Gaiden 2 :)

Okay, I think I've settled on Mass Effect and GTA IV. I can get Assassin's Creed later.

Since everything has already been said I'll name that which has not

Earth Defense Force 2017

Words cannot describe the awesome of this game. You are a member of the EDF who has to fight off an alien invasion almost single handedly.

And not with super powers or super giant mecha. No you start out with an M-16 and a rocket launcher.. and then you kick ass.

Good choices.

As for the glory that is Earth Defense 2017, all I have to say is that looks can be deceiving. It's a fantastic game if you play it with a few friends. Not so much if you're playing alone

It does look kind of bad until you play it. It's basically a port of a PS2 game.

But when you are playing it and literally 10 thousand ants the size of buildings come pouring over a hill top.. Well you forgive the ps2 graphics.

I still think Halo 3 is a must for any 360 owner, that is if you're into Halo.

I'm sueing you for false advertising.

Most of my Halo friends got bored of Halo 3. They said it's near equal to Halo 2, and they don't really like it as much online.

The Halo 3 ending sucked, but the online is legendary as always. I enjoy it.
