I'm in the minority here, but I honestly don't get why Gears of War is loved by so many.
Was it the fact that the game had a unique mechanic in cover system? Don't get me wrong, the cover system is unique, but it just felt like that made the game so much more tedious than it needed to be. By that I mean it turned the game into a travel to point A, get behind something, fire until everything moving dies, continue.
Was it the controls? Because from what I've played, the controls were much more complex than a traditional first person shooter. The first few hours with the game, I was struggling with the controls, and then, the game just kind of ended because of how short it was.
The graphics are good, but this is no reason to love a game. It's not even like the graphics are as good as everyone makes them out to be. I went into the game expecting amazing graphics because of what I had heard, but they were a let down. It didn't help that the game used a dark and depressing color palate. Keep in mind I was playing on an HD TV.
I know it wasn't the derivative and generic story.
I was just underwhelmed by the entire game. What was so good about it?
