56kbps (kilobits per second) = 7 k/s (kilobytes per second)

using the same 8 bits in 1 byte logic...

26.4 kbps = 3.3 k/s

There is only kbps and k/s, there is no kbs... you mean kbps.
3.3 ks a sec? Ewwwwwwwww.
Well I guess it could be worse.

No need to be so anal about it. He said 'kb a second', basically kbps.

I personally have a 625KBps down/45KBps up connection (5mbps/360kbps).
Generally you see kbps and k/s, since morons tend not to notice capitilization...

For example, you'll never see KBps, MBps, or GBps anywhere, as that notation isn't used for the reason stated above.

Well, it's generally known that a capital B means Byte, while a lowercase one will mean bit. I often see XXXKBps and XXXkbps, which I know to be different sizes. It may not be socially acceptable to you, but it's socially acceptable to a lot of people I chat with online.

That's not actually true--a lot of ISPs, while they say they offer 'unlimited access' actually will charge you extra if you use an insane amount of bandwidth. A friend of mine was hosting two servers using his cable modem in Maryland (Comcast, or Cox.. I don't remember which) and they gave him a 30$ bandwidth 'fee' at the end of his first month. I hear Verizon does that too.
It is very, very hard to hit it. I came close a few times, and that was near constant ul/dl on certain peer to peer apps. Then again, my upload is slow compared to the advertised levels (thanks to piss poor quality phone lines).

I got something like DSL512. I dont know what that means though, probably 512kbps or something. I do have a ****ty 3gig cap every month, hard capped, which really sucks.
