I have XP pro and You need to have Windows ME installed for you to install windows XP unless you have the 8 floppy disk boot disk... Or you can have the full version and then you can install no problem... It takes like an hour to install on my 1.7 :\

dont do a system restore, he is a nub who dont know what he is on about >_>

A systerm restore will delete EVERYTHING you have done, meaning any installed programes, any games, saves, music u downloaded, everything

anouther thing, you can install xp pro in about 30 mins, dont take an hour...

If your installing XP from a new HHD, or a formatted one, OR one that ur going to format, then when loading up ur comp, press f8 and use the boot from cd optain that will come up, use the xp bootable cd rom too open a setup that will format (if u want) and install xp for you

but i find whats the best way is installing 98 and then xp after that, then any time you dont like xp, you can go to Control panel>Add/remove programes, and just uninstall XP, and it will go back too 98 easy as pie

Depends, in most cases, a system restore brings back the factory defaults for ure comp. At least, thats the way its been with all the comps I have. So if Halflife isnt a default, its gone...

thank you Majin_You

a system restore will delete most things from your computer that u have made since the last time u saved a restore point, and since you would have too do a very big jump back, he would lose ALOT of files.

Plz Glenn, do it the way i said, once you have xp on, if u just want to go back too 98 (or whatever ur last OS was) by uninstalled XP, this will not make u lose any of your importent files like games, music, homework, or whatever u may have on your computer

I did it a while ago and I really wouldn't suggest it, everyting I had installed or downloaded or edited or made since I installed XP was deleted. Or you need to take serious back-ups of all the files. And believe me, it are many many CD's.

So all I have to do is uninstall XP and it will go back to 98? And all my programs games and others will stay there? Correct me if I'm wrong. And if so have you done it? Because I don't want to lose ANYTHING of my computer besides XP.

You will like XP, im sure, its more stable than 98 anyways... and if you dont like it, still use it for about a week or so just to get used to it...

of course this is only my personal opinion, don't blame me if you don't like it...

Yes, if you had a OS on your comp before Xp, you can simpley unintall xp and it will go back to your old OS, and you will not lose anything, and dont do a systeam restore for gods sake lol

Systeam restores are only handy if ur comp stops working totally, then u can do one of them
