I think they got a billion dollars out of it... Which is pretty absurd. Anyway, youtube would be in the same place it was before it was bought, minding it's own business and not getting sued.

I don't see what the big deal is. The videos they do have are bad audio / graphics quality.

Either way, YouTube would still be sued.

Wikipedia:

Currently staffed by 67 employees, the company was named TIME magazine's "Invention of the Year" for 2006. In October 2006, Google, Inc., announced that it had reached a deal to acquire the company for $1.65 billion USD in Google's stock. The deal closed on 13 November 2006.
And on a more interesting note:

On October 9, 2006, it was announced that the company will be purchased by Google for US$1.65 billion in stock. The purchase agreement between Google and YouTube came after YouTube presented three agreements with media companies in an attempt to escape the threat of copyright-infringement lawsuits. YouTube will continue to operate independently, and the company's 67 employees and its co-founders will continue working within the company. The deal to acquire YouTube closed on November 13. It is Google's biggest purchase to date.

Because of Google's own Google video. Youtube is perceived as competition, and what do you do with competition? You buy it.

At least, that's what Google, and Midway do.

Well, YouTube became a very popular place once word spread about it. Google probably figured that they could make money off of it's success prior to the purchase. Either that or it's their plot to rid the world of Yahoo.

That too. Don't forget about EA Games.

So only the right companies allow copyright infringement to run rampant?

He's not talking about full shows or episodes posted on youtube. He's talking about AMV's and stuff like that. That should be legal, because, as I said in another thread already, AMV's should be considered as a tribute, dedication, admiration, etc. to the Anime used for the development of the AMV.

And it's like someone else said:

"OMG YOU'RE USING OUR SERIES FOR THIS AND THAT AND SHOWING IT OFF AT GOOGLE!!!111 WE'LL SUE YOU BECAUSE WE HAVE NO MONEY AS WE USED TO AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING BETTER!!!"

Funimation, grow the **** up!

They've not done a lot with it yet, and they say they have no plans to stop Google Video, so it's anyones guess what the future of YouTube is. Well, Google is awesome, so by that logic, whatever it does with YouTube shall also be awesome.

Oh, they did add shading to the logo, actually... more to come? For 1.6 billion? Has to be.

I say Youtube will eventually lose many hits/videos since Google is getting extremely serious about illegal content. The worth of Youtube will drop dramatically... Google will end up making it into a mediocre video upload site. I say the ones that sold it should buy it back when the price is right... that way they still get to keep some money and get to put Youtube back on the right track... which is lazily stop illegal content. (porn XD)

Youtube would be doing just fine as it was before if Google never bought it.
