I haven't been able to use my PS2 for about a year now...
I have, but its been running extremely slow. The only game it
runs so far is Onimusha 2. (I just got Silent Hill 3 like about 2
weeks ago and I haven't been able to play it at all).

It makes these wierd noises and it acctually scratches the
surface of my games the more I keep trying. I have searched
the web like a thousand times when this problem first occured.
Their were people with problems like...

"My PS2 only runs PS Games!"
or
"My PS2 only runs game with a blue back side"

At first I thought I had the same problem cause when I first
looked into this the only game my PS2 would run was Winback
which had a blue back side to it. As time passed it kept getting
worst... its gotten to the point where it runs games that have
no scratches or finger prints on it, or dirt(this is my 2nd guess
seeing as how my Onimusha 2 has no scratches... but most of
my games just have like 2-3 scratches and some dont even have
any but dirt marks that can barely be removed).

Anyway, After searching for the problem again people recommended
I'd buy a Laser Lens Cleaner... I did so but my PS2 wont give it
the chance to run the CD for about 3-4 minutes cause it keeps
stopping with the "Disc Read Error". Meaning I would have to keep
ejecting and inserting the disk manually every time it would stop.
Anyway, I dont know if the laser alignment is diffrent from where
the brushes are on the disk but it still did not help out my PS2.
Now, is there any way I can fix my PS2? I cant certainly buy
another one because I got my PS2 like the first few weeks it was
released and the warranty is long gone. And im not wasting a couple
of $100 dollars on a new one thats for sure. Im better off just
waiting for the Playstation X :\

well, i called tech support when my ps2 did this,

playstations of the 3 giants right now are pieces of ****, in teh apsect of how long they last,

i take good care of mine and mine started not reading disc about 3 months after i got it, my cousins did the same, and then he got another one, it is now doing the same thing again

im still on my first, BUT i have found a way to fix this, temporarily until it messes up again,

though it does involve you taking aprt your ps2
(unless you wanna pay 80 or so $$ to have sony do the same thing for you)

take all the scews on the bottom out, there are some under the lil rubber stoppers, then take the casing off,

be warned there is a ribbon in there, dont jerk too hard or youll total your ps2,

(btw if you havent already find a safe place to do it)

the after you have it open you should see the top of the cd tray, it itself has 4 small screws on it,

remove those, then youll see the lens, use a q tip or a tissue to clean it off,

(tech support told me a lens cleaner could actually make the problem worse)

obviosly put everything back together again, and i need not warn you BE CAREFUL

this will void your warranty f you have one, and it will cost even more $$ to have it repaired if you mess it up

the only reasn i did this is cuz i had had my ps2 for awhile broken like that and i got mine free, i didnt want to pay to have something repaired that i didnt pay for originally,

if you dont wanna risk it send it to sony and have them repair it, but that costs a bt of money

another thing is, it could be the laser, youll hafta adjust it manually, find a faq for it on gamfaqs, (thast also where i found out how to fix the lens problem)

also before you do this try the system diagnostic, sometimes itll fix the problem

if not, dismantle your ps2 and try to fix it yourself, or pay someone else to

Oh, ok thanks.
Im good at repairs, but thanks for warning be about that ribbon.
Anyway. How can I un-screw the PS2? Tell me this step by step
because im not really sure where their placed...

You said Under the rubber things? Meaning I have to remove the
Rubber on each end of the bottom of the PS2 to reveal the screws
or something?

Its gotten to the point where I dont care if my PS2 breaks or not,
I've tried so many things to fix it.

EDIT:

What does the System Diagnostic command do? Everytime I turn
it to ON nothing new happends.
