128 MB RAM
833mHz Intel Chipset 810e
Intel Chipset raphics Drivers(they sux0rz big time)
Win98 SE

Which practically means I have only between 20-30 fps at 800x600,but I can live with it.I always play around that fps....

BTW,for showing fps count there is another one....

cl_showfps 1

Show fps count in topleft without eating up your screen

open up the console by pressing the button left of 1 (`) and then type in either
/net_graph 3 (/net_graph 0 to change back) or
/cl_showfps 1

If you play online alot its good to use "net_graph 4" as it shows alot of stats, *.**kb in and out, current ping, FPS and displays it in the bottom right hand corner out of the way of most things. you can see it in my sig if you look closely.

Actually that is net_graph 3. There is no net_graph 4... well I dont think there is. I have only seen 1 2 and 3.

I get like 20-30, sometimes down to 10...lol.
Specs are : Hewlet Packard Pavilion - Intel Celeron 533 Megahertz, (lol) 192 MB of RAM, (dunno what kind) Intel 82810 Graphics Controller, (lmao)
The only thing that doesn't absolutely suck about my computer is the surround sound, and 17 inch monitor. (But I got 56k, so that makes the good stuff just about worthless playing online games)

I just did a couple of tests.

I never tried D3D before so I tried it and was getting between 60fps and 80fps but it wasnt very smooth like opengl is at 60fps all the time.

I then turned vsync off and got 100fps in opengl all the time in a lan game on my own. After, I tried an Internet game and it seemed to be ok at 100fps, sometimes it droped. I pressed esc and left the game running while i watched tv, I came back to it and the fps were at 15.

I use 1024 X 768 and 75hz refresh rate btw. Refresh rate wont go any higher.

I come to the conclusion just to keep the settings as I had them before. As the saying goes if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I used to have a slow computer (600mhz, 8mb gfx), and had to run in software mode to start with but upgraded to 256mb ram and I could then run in opengl at about 30fps if i was lucky, so I know how ppl with slow computers feel. If your going to upgrade to a faster gfx card on a slow computer it wont make much difference because your cpu cant keep up with the gfx card.

I have an AMD 2000+ atholon with a Geforce3 Ti500 and a gig of DDR ram and I can only pull 40-70 fps. I hate this machine so much... I need to find a way to tweak it back up to the level of power it *should* boast with this equipment.

the reason for your slow fps is because of your video card, try upgrading k? everything else seems to be average or good, but its that savage card, try upgrading to a cheep geforce 2 or if you can pick up a tnt2 card do it, youll see wonders in your games, the savage 4 was a pretty good card for its time, it performed on par with the voodoo 3 (even though the voodoo 3 was handicaped) and when I mean handicaped, it could only use 16bit and only had 16mb of vram, I advise you to upgrade ur graphics card... and 512mb of ram no matter what type it is, its still pretty good, because if the ram matches ur fsb or higher, then theres no point in getting faster ram, *shrugs* anyways good luck dude and btw I am now getting 50-60 fps
my system is,
AMD K-6 300mhz
320mb of sd ram
ATI Radeon 9500pro (its got L shaped memory and is able to be boosted upto a 9700)
but yeah ive stuffed around with my settings and Im slowly creeping to 100 fps mark :) I think its pretty good considering what my processor is! LMAO
