Video Card Question

Ok, I'm planning on getting the Geforce FX 5900 Ultra. Is there any differnance in performance between Verto geforce brands, or Asylum Geforce brands , or Albatron Geforces brands and what not? Are they all the same? Do they all vary in performance? If so, what is the best one to get?

Most GeForce cards are direct clones of the original reference card, occasionally, one of the manufacturers plays around with it and makes it meaner, but it rarely happens when the core is somewhat new.

Visiontek and Leadtek both make some pretty mean Geforce cards.
I'm still using my old Visiontek Geforce 3, and it runs great.

o do any of u know were i can get my hands on a visiontek geforce2 mx400? i dont like buying online wat i mean is like do u know were they sell them for example walmart,bestbuy,etc.

I only get asus cards. Very good cards. Also come with some of the best coolers on them.

Also are the differnt brands of cards all wired completely differntly?

MSI has been the best in my opinion. You can burn your card by overclocking it or spilling coffee on it and they'll send you a new one no questions asked. Also check www.shacknews.com for all kinds of reviews every day. They're a great site for news on games.

They are rewired, but all the brands mentioned perform closely to eachother. I have an MSI Nforce2 board, and it's pwned so far.

My personal recomendation is this, i love the new Nvidia Geforce FX, any "brand" of it works close enough to the others, the geforce cards almost always work with every game, a con about the FX, is that it is huge, it takes up twice the space of a normal geforce because of the huge cooling thing on it. The FX is NOT as powerful in (not as many fps) in newer games, but will be much much better in older games

The new Radeon whatevers are good in that they take up less space and have a turbo feature that enables it self when the card is being used to its full extent. This card is better for newer games that require the speed of it all. Cons: it doesnt have as much support for all of the games. It will work like **** in older games.

And to find many of these cards and a few older cards, i recommend www.accessmicro.com that is THE cheapest computer parts store online. I got my top-of-the-line (as of 2 months ago) for $1000 with shipping and no monitor

I, honestly, would get a 9700 Pro or 9800 Pro. They have MUCH better image quality and the AA and AF is of much higher quality. Infact, the 2xAA on the 9800 Pro looks as good as the 4x-8xAA on the GFFX. The only reason the 9800 Pro is a little slower is because of much higher image quality. NVIDIA also cheated to get higher 3dmarks than ATi. Just my opinion, if you get either one you wont be sorry, . As for the brand names, non of them are really any different. The biggest difference between scores is probly 1-3%.

I donno, the ati has bad driver support, they arn't really user friendly. As for the benchmarks for the 5900 vs. 9800, many 3rd party people tested the cards and the 5900 beat the 9800 by a sliver.

Yes, they HAD bad driver support, but they are starting to do very good. Just download Cats 3.5 and your all set. The control panel is pretty good aswell, ^^. Oh yea, would you rather get a card that can beat ati by a sliver and have crap image quality or a card that barely loses and has 4x better image quality?

Indeed I really dont like ATIs support and driver system. Nvidia definatly has them beat there. I would say the only difference between all those brands are warrenty and support. Basicly. One brand may work better than another but it wont be very noticable. Right now im running a Geforce 4 MX 420, and im planning on upgrading to an FX 5600 Ultra. As far as im concerned, any brand should work. Nvidia always has the best driver support. One reason I dont like ATI is because of their driver support and the fact that you need patches for a lot of the good games to work (ie Neverwinter Nights or so i've heard, along with a few others). Call me stupid, but I just have a strange feeling that ATI is going to go the way of 3dFX. I could be wrong, but im just seeing strange similarities.

No wai ATI is going that way I have had no problems with my ATI and nobody has mensioned the Geforce FX overheating problems

www.enpc.com had some good prices on video cards. Another site to always check for stuff is www.newegg.com They have been awesome in the past for me.
