Start->Run->"msconfig"->Services tab

You can uncheck most of those, since alot of them are just stupid bs that Microsoft defaults to running on a fresh install of XP. A few of them are required for your DSL/Cable or dialup internet connection to work.

Changes take place when you reboot.

If you mess something up, and things aren't working correctly, go back into that Services menu and click Select All and reboot again.

@Metalburn: How about checking off Show Processes From All Users (including your account)?

yeah well I know that, how do you think I got 13 to begin with . but I can't really turn anything else off.

Processes dont' show everything thats running. Example being other services and right now I have a little virus I picked up for bringing my firewall down at school for 5 minutes that hides itself.
