Ill never have that many proccesses I think. I have win98se so mine looks different.

Mozilla Firefox (have it on to view this thread)
Explorer (good ol' windows)
Zlclient (Im a bit paranoid so..... firewall)
Ccapp (Norton I believe)
Rundll32 (This is important to windows I think)
Systray (Another windows thing I believe)
Ahqtb (whatever the heck this is, anyone know?)

so yeah, 7 processes, and I can shut them down till I have 2 processes.

actually that's not true, as you can see my screenshot has no other program running. only the necesairy windows ones. svchost.exe etc, windows 98se just doesn't show everything.

You people need serious help.

Edit:

That's what it looks like when I boot, after that I start up AIM and IRC.

32 Processes. This is with Internet Explorer, mIRC, Trillian, and Winamp running. :)
Kurt: How did you manage to get 2 svchost.exes to run? For me, even with a fresh install of XP I get around 4-5. o_O

Yeah, you can take some svchosts away but not all of them. It'll seriously stuff the sound up. I've done it on my old pc. It took away 10,000 commit charge, but stuffed things up.
OMG! I have no svchosts! But 40 processes? When there's 13 on screen? Something's not right....
And don't ask what I'm listening to on WMP.

Start->Run->"msconfig"->Services tab

You can uncheck most of those, since alot of them are just stupid bs that Microsoft defaults to running on a fresh install of XP. A few of them are required for your DSL/Cable or dialup internet connection to work.

Changes take place when you reboot.

If you mess something up, and things aren't working correctly, go back into that Services menu and click Select All and reboot again.

@Metalburn: How about checking off Show Processes From All Users (including your account)?
