No hostitlity, just saying that i've had experiences in the past where some people are too arrogant and act like they're God or something.

Okay, so I wasted 50 dollars for oblivion due to everyones "omg oblivion rocks!"

So I decided to be a thief/assassin thingy. So i go into someones house (lock picking is a ****ing *****) and i steel some brandy. I go to another side of the map, ( i don't know where i am) and i talk to someone and they're like "THIEF! you have to go to jail because I didn't see you steal stolen goods"

And then I steal a horse and again, NO ONE is around, people are inside the house that i steal it from sure, but other than that, no one's around. So i steal it, i ride to that one place where the king used to live; and then i get off the horse by accident get back on, and everyone around me is like "THIEF! You won't get away with this!" dude... wtf?!?!

This game is seriously pissing me off, it's times like these i wish that i could oh i don't know, download the game, and try it out before I decide to waste my money.

i prity much HATE this game its too boring i can sleep in it and while waiting fall alsleep too since its too boring the game just doesnt get me going it stops there isnt much fun just travel descover more travel there is just a bit weardo stuff

[i eat like 15 rat meat (drain fatigiu effect) and i got blew up in the sky i mean i almost flyed i got my arms like 5 meters long this all was very short just a few secconds but still so weard and stupid the good thing abaut the game is reality almost every thing is just like in reality just its a game it cant be real

and no matter how good your PC is you will always have lag i play on all set on high and graphic 800*600 the lag is huge and insane at most of the place but i get to see it all prity but i uninstalled the game twice now

I didn't have lag. Infact, everyone complains that the loading takes forever, the loading didn't take more than 7 or 8 seconds for me, and ingame, with all high settings and 1024*768 I easily could run it. That's really the only thing I like so far.

I'm on 1280x1024 with everything on high and the only time my fps dropped was when you come out of the tunnel thing and go into the other part of the castle in the beginning (you go through a man-sized hole in the wall). It only dropped by 7 or 8 so it was no biggy.

Yeah- it's not laggy at all. Infact it's very very managable.

It's just I don't understand how I can steal something, go ten miles west, and the gaurds know about it -.-

It just doesn't make sense to me. And of course I'm stubborn so i'm like "**** you and your jail and fine, and then I fight them and die, get pissed off, and go back to playing Fable.

Theres a mod that takes away the guards psychic powers. Look for it.

Are you sure you didn't steal something before and did not pay the fine? Because I can just pick a lock (which is quite easy actually, just push the pin up untill it goes up slowly instead of instant and then press the button) go in a house (don't forget to sneak), kill of any inhabitants of the house so they can't report me, steal stuff and then leave.

And well, you dieing trying to kill guards...well, first level a bit, my thief/assassin could kill guards when he was level 2.
I don't have any problems with graphics either, I have the highest settings and a 1280x1024 screen. (AMD Athlon 3800+ X2, 2gb RAM, 7800GT 256mb.)

This game is seriously pissing me off, it's times like these i wish that i could oh i don't know, download the game, and try it out before I decide to waste my money.

You didn't?! Are you insane? Why would you buy it without playing it first? It's stupid mistakes like that that got me Far Cry and Master of Orion 3. I hope you learned a valuable lesson from all this...

As Sicron and the God Emperor said, there's a mod to fix the guards and lockpicking is too easy when you get the hang of it.

just a note, horse stealing is like the best way to instantly get arrested

and dont run up and talk to guards if you have stolen items on you. its that simple.

Unless you're caught stealing it, the guards wouldn't care if you had stolen the Amulet of Kings. They only try to arrest you if you have a bounty.

Gamespot made a special graphics Mod page for Oblivion, it includes some great mods that really enhance your graphics, especially the last mod on the last page. It enables HDR+Anti Aliasing (only for high end (x1800, x1900) ATI cards) in Oblivion, something Bethesda wasn't capable of doing.

Updating Mods For New Versions of Oblivion

Some mods need to be updated each time a new patch is released for Oblivion, otherwise they may not work properly or at all. In such cases, it is wise to check the mod sites for a new version of the mod shortly after a patch is released. Otherwise changes to certain gameplay parameters may conflict with that in the new patch, and cause unintended consequences.

However, for simple mods which only have replacement textures, sounds or images, and hence no chance of actually conflicting with the latest patch update, you can resolve this easily yourself. Oblivion usually considers any replacement file 'old' if the file dates are older than that of the main Oblivion.esm file, and doesn't load them up. You can either use the ArchiveInvalidation.txt utility method further above, or you can change the dates on your existing mod files yourself quickly and easily, following these instructions:

1. Download the free FileDate Changer utility (20KB).

2. Extract the contents and run FileDate.exe

3. In the program, click 'Add Files', then browse to the mod directory where replacement textures reside. For example, for the LOD Texture Replacement files this should be \Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\textures\landscapelod\generated.

4. Select all the mod files there (hold down SHIFT and highlight all the files), then click Open.

5. Back in the main program window, change the Creation and Modified dates to some new date, such as tomorrow's date (i.e. newer than the day you patched Oblivion).

6. Click 'Change File Dates' and it's done.

This method only works for mods which are simple replacements of existing Oblivion data, primarily mods based on texture, sound and image changes. I don't recommend this for any other type of mod which affects gameplay for example.
