Steam has been nothing but trouble for me. It used to work, but it keeps asking me to put in my CD key (and i did buy Half-Life so it is valid), and now i cant get into my account or play anything on steam what so ever. It keeps saying the CD key is already in use by another account, but when i first put it in it worked, and i can also log into my account, yet it keeps uninstalling Half-Life from my games so i have to put in my CD key again and it restricts it. The key worked when i subscribed a while ago, and i played many times. so it would have restricted any noob with a keygen from using it with an account with steam. I emailed them at steampowered.com and they havent done anything to help me. So im completely screwed once they switch everything from WON over to Steam. I also read that if you ask them to delete your account, the CD key wont be valid anymore and id have to buy another Half Life to get a new key which is a bunch of S***. Anyone know whats up with this? :\

Have you read the help and FAQ at www.steampowered.com?

If you have, remmeber the part where they said they won't respond to emails?

Check their forums. They have lots of info that could help.

i had this problem to i think...
are you trying to make a new account? because thats what screwed me over.
if u are just go to ur old account and right click the halflife thing in games and hit install that should re-make the steam cache version... that fixed mine up when i thought it was broken this way

No, i can log onto the one account that i have, its just the fact that since the game keeps uninstalling from steam i have to put my CD key in again, and when i do it says its already used by another account, which is strange because the account i use registered the cd key with it, and ive played on steam with it. But i guess since ESF 1.2 is going to work on WON anyway, ill just use that. The only mod i know i wont be able to play without steam is NS, but thats not really a big deal. lol i think the reason that they wont respond to emails is because of problems like this, since they probably wouldnt know what the hell to do about it. Its a conspiracy o_O

ok do this un-install anything that ever had to do with half life and steam including esf. keep the esf installer the 1.1.1.0 installer and the fmod.dll. THEN install half life. play half life so it asks for your cd key. then go and install esf into C:\Sierra\Half-life so then you have won... then go and download steam, then log into your account. go to servers and try to play a half life server, it will ask to download a 420 mb file. click next it will say its esf, do when thats done downloading it will update if it didnt already. then when thats all set make sure you put the fmod.dll in there and everything. and the 1.1.1.0 if its not in there already

Good luck
[EDIT] THis is what i would have done if i were you, whether it works or not i cant tell you. but its probably the best chance you have.

Yeah but you see my problem is steam related, it wont let me put in my CD key into steam, because its already registered and i cant unregister without them making my key obsolete. I just wont use steam anymore and use WON

Why do so many people have trouble with steam? Just read everything in the installer and you won't.

I installed and kept my won folders intact and then I installed natural-selection 3.0, team fortress, dod, etc. No problems with me. I entered my cdkey and made an account, no problems there either. It works perfectly fine if you READ.

Well i would love to know exactly why every time i log in and go into "Games" i have to reinstall Half-Life, then when it tells me to enter my CD key, it says its already used with an account, and dont bother saying that someone could have used it, because i have already used it with Steam. I dont know how many times i gotta say that...

thats why. you already have it. you dont need to put in your cd key. just log in with your user account. what ever that is. when it says create user account or already registered or what ever it says click on already registered type in your e-mail address and your password wait a few.... minutes (darn steam) and it will load.if this doenst work you have to tell steam about your problem or else you wont be able to play 1.2 with out a few bugs im sure

Yeah it works better if you didn't steal the CD key or borrow someone's too.

LoL...

You probally are a person that isnt allowed to make changes on a hard drive. Thats why it keeps getting taken off. Check to see if the System Admin allows you to do so.

That is the only reason I see of Half-Life keeping un-installing itself.

Second:

Get the most recient Steam Installer. <--Biggie

The thing is, since i have to keep instaling Half-Life into steam, it constantly asks for my CD Key and it wont install without registering the key, but it is already registered, its just the fact that steam sucks major ass

Steam doesn't "suck ass"
it's your computers settings that mess everything up.
