They are painted in Photoshop, all done by hand with my mouse and tablet

my first bump map,still have to work on it and make a specular map.
known problems:
-his beard,duke shouldnt have one
-fix his nose
-make his face less noisy
And I think you should fix his arm skin. it looks too dark. But nice work overal ;)

I use an old Wacom Intous 2. I honestly just started with max on these models and I don't think my UVmapping skills are really any good still, plus I probably do it the hardest way because I don't know the tools very well. I'm sure you can find some good online tutorials Jinx.

Hrm im tryin 2 find a way to skin something poly for poly.. that way i can add as much detail in photoshop as possible

@DBZhell: yeah his skin looked way to grey,fixed that now.

I worked mostly on the body texture,still have to fix the noise on the head.

Looking better, but his ass looks mega weird. The rest looks pretty good, arms look the best IMO.

Movento: Now i like his arms. Especially his shoulders and triceps. But the biceps looks weard. Maybe you should try deleting the vein on his biceps. And fix the pockets on his ass ;)

And heres my work :) I've modeled my imagenery char :D
