This may seem like something out of a science fiction movie: researchers have designed microparticles that can be injected directly into the bloodstream to quickly oxygenate your body, even if you can't breathe anymore. It's one of the best medical breakthroughs in recent years, and one that could save millions of lives every year.
The invention, developed by a team at Boston Children's Hospital, will allow medical teams to keep patients alive and well for 15 to 30 minutes despite major respiratory failure. This is enough time for doctors and emergency personnel to act without risking a heart attack or permanent brain injuries in the patient.

That's actually amazing. And for once it's a breakthrough that we can get immediate results from.

aint that gonna be problematic if there is no pulse? u need to pulse to pump blood through the body.

I guess someone will just do cheat pressures on him while they inject him... its still half way through

i think that's the general idea. it's a way of oxygenating the blood stream for enough time that you can find a more permanent solution. of course you would need to continue heart massage until that time, but it means quite a few key things:
1. you eliminate (almost entirely) the need for mouth to mouth resuscitation, which in turn means
2. almost completely eliminated risk of disease transfer from the victim/patient to the emergency respondent (remember, they won't always be paramedics at first).
3. you can focus on fixing the problem a bit easier when you're not having to give CPR and mouth to mouth.

on another note... trained divers who can remain submerged for like, 10 minutes at a time, might ACTUALLY be able to use this to stay under water for prolonged periods... i don't think untrained people would be able to with the same effect. could be interesting for sure!
