Considering it's an alienware, and you don't need monitor/keyboard/mouse, thats quite a sweet piece you've put together there =) for the price.

That price is canadian, plus you don't need the network card or sound card, as the mobo has them. I was forced to include a power supply because the case didn't have one, the processor has a heatsink though.

The videocard isn't great either.

The money you would save by building it your own, and not getting a sound/network card could be invested into getting a better video card.

I'm assuming you are useing american prices. so really, doing it my way is much cheaper. I'll build the same PC under american prices and see what I come up with.

Don't worry, this includes the price of them building it and testing the OS and video and stuff.

edit: american price: whoa. http://www.us.ncix.com/pcbuilder/index.php?action=getprice&id=1580791&platformid=1000

well if anyone read my post you would see it isn't really worth 400, but that it is a rip-off. Graphics card won't play Doom 3 very well. low-end maybe.

So, basically, you build a PC, they put it together, and deliver? Or do they deliver the parts and have you put it all together? I'm talking about the PC Builder thing.

you pay 50 extra bucks and they'll build it. Test the video card and stuff, and the drivers. Then they install an OS run that for a bit. Reboot it three times with the OS installed. Then they uninstall the OS (assuming you aren't buying the OS) then they send it to you.

So yes, they put it all together and send it your way.

You could save 50 bucks and just order the parts, but you could mess up.

Plus the prices I gave already include the 50 dollar charge!

You won't get all the offers Alienware give, like gamespot 90 day trial, but those only add up to very little, so you save. Plus I do beleive the site I mentioned already runs a benchmark when they test it.

www.newegg.com

Buy your parts from there and put them together. You will save over a thousand dollars. That's the Alienware difference.

Yeah...
Even though you don't want any "I can build that for half the price!" flak, you should atleast look around on either www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and make sure you're getting your money's worth.
I guarantee you you'd be able to find all of those identical parts, order them online, and build the PC yourself, saving loads of money. One of my friends ordered an Alienware a year ago, and still kicks himself to this day for blowing so much money.

Its not a bad sys,,,,,upgrade that graphics card and it will be slammin.

As for the Alienware factor, the extra money goes into the style (which i find to be quite slammin) and the technology they put into their case (which will give a decent preformance boost) and if your willing to pay extra for it then im thinkin its not a bad deal.

As for him savin a thousand dollars on a system that only is gonna cost him 1500,,,,im thinkin your livin in a dream world. 500 bucks for a gig of ram, a videocard, a 3 gig athlon chip etc etc is outrageous.

Well, I custom built my comp (I didnt actually put it together, the store did for a fee, but I picked what goes in), and for that price, I figure thats a decent comp

I'd like to see that. I really would. You get that PC for $700, and I'll buy it.

Well if anyone read my post, you would see that he is saving atleast $200 american.
Which could be invested into a better video card, which would boost his performance more then an alienware case would.

You really want to get this:

ASUS CRW-5224 52X24X52 CDRW INT IDE W/ SW RETAIL BOX
(CRW-5224) (sku: 9741)\

When this already has a 24X CDR built in?

LG GSA-4081 DVD-RW 4X2X8 DVD+RW 8X4X8 CDRW 24X16X24 OEM W/ S/W
(GSA-4081 ) (sku: 11181)

Also:

KINGSTON HYPERX 1024MB DUAL CHANNEL KIT PC2700 2X512MB DDR 333MHZ 184PIN
(KHX2700K2/1G) (sku: 10794) $243.81

Seems more than a little to expensive to me.
