that socket doesn't supper dual channel ram.

You'll have to do like 2 sticks I do beleive.

I made an error when I made went on, and did the same thing as you. Apperantly in socket 754 you have to do it like 512 RAM X 2. so get two sticks of 512 instead of one stick of 1024.

I think, that is what I'm always told.

The RAM you got is kinda slow. PC-2700 or 333MHz won't serve you well.

If you're looking for good, top of the line RAM, check out Corsair XMS,
http://www.corsairmicro.com

I'd get at least PC-3200 or 400MHz RAM.

No offense Niobe, but that RAM is really bad. Also, AMD > Intel.

Actually AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is faster than a P4. Also, your ram, it's only PC2700 and 333MHz, as mentioned earlier in the thread (by SailorAlea) if you wan't anything worth your money, get PC3200 or above and at least 400MHz

As for Niobe's system.. case is fine, processor is Okay, bad choice of motherboard--If you're getting a 6800 or a X800 video card, you definitely want a PCI-Express Mobo,

Kingston is a decent RAM company, but you picked out a crappy speed--PC2700 is too slow, you want at least PC-3200, and at least 1GB of it.
Seagate Barracuda's are good hard drives, I own one myself, power supply is fine..

But, it's hardly worth having a good video card if you've got a crappy 17" monitor. I'd recommend a 21" viewable monitor, and at LEAST a 19" viewable monitor.

A lot of people invest tons of cash in a great video card and RAM, without realizing that even the best setup still won't look as good as it could on a big-screen monitor.

Ehm, I don't mean to pick, but from what I've seen there is really nothing out right now that really pushes PCI-Express, the margin between AGP8x and PCI-Express benchmarks looks too little (in my opinion) to put more money into PCI-E right now. Example:
The following is PCI-Express Benchmark:

And below is an AGP8x benchmark

ATi seriously updated their drives so Doom 3 now runs muuuch better with X800's. Hence, that benchmark means nothing. I also suggest you drop that 100 dollar sound card and go to the 50 dollar one. As for the XMS Corsair RAM, I say you save a ****load of money and get the regular non-XMS RAM unless you plan to overclock your computer. You should get an X800 Pro or nVidia equivalent atleast. Stay away from the old Radeons, they will suck a lot more as the year rolls around. You might want to wait a little longer and save up more money for the new processors (I really suggest P4) when they come out with their 1066 FSB. Even longer for 512 Mb video cards.

i hate asus so that's wy i picked this one, and about the 333mhz, i have that now and it run's pretty everything i wand.
and i dont take an 21" or an 19" monitor becours then i dont have any room on my desk to hold my keyboard on it.
and an 1gb ram is a bit to mutch to wast money on, 512mb is good for be.
btw, does anyone know an GOOD motherboard, asus is crap and ready for the trashcan.

@ niobe
asus is really good actually...
i have the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe and you know what? it ROCKS.
it has pretty much everyhing you really need to have for a good gaming pc.
plus it comes with alot of free software like powerdvd and mp3 rip software and some other things like antivirus.
it also comes with serial ata cables so... those cables aren't really THAT cheap when you have to buy them seperately when you buy them in stores.
