Problem starting ESF 1.2

I try to create a LAN game and when the loader screen comes up (with greyish backround with HL symbol.. well u know) but no writing appears.... only the word LOADING.. then the game closes... Why is this?

Please note (ive done some weird things on installing which is probably the cause..)

Read these to see if they the problem:

1) I installed ESF to C:\Sierra\Half-Life\ (is that right? coz hl.exe doesnt work....?

2) There was NO STEAM OR WON option apon installing, it is on STEAM, (which i dont have ) So I open up HL and activate ESF thru Custom game.... and try to create LAN there.... (this wrong)?

ignorance.. your not ignorant for not knowing how to do this. everyone has questions and everyone starts some where so here goes

1. UNINSTALL EVERYTHING half life esf steam etc.

2. Install half life go into the game then exit the game for cd key

3. Install the 1.1.1.0 patch (search google "1.1.1.0 patch")

4. Down load STEAM www.steampowered.com download the 600kb one install it, and enter your e-mail address and your cd key if needed

5. create your account with steam and get half life working by going into games and click on an half life server it will down load whatever is needed just click ok

then download and install esf 1.2 and choose steam. and everything will be all set you will see esf in third party games in steam. yay for you!!!!
