It's not going F2P. It went F2P after release expectations, until they got it into a "good state" as some would say. Then went back to P2P. Next, if 2.0 fails, I don't think F2P is an option - it'll just be shut down.

Still, right now, it's insanely fun, and has a very mature community, like XI. That is what I like about it. You don't get "Noob, do it yourself!" or just random jerks. They might exist, but you will so rarely ever come upon one, unlike in other MMO's.

The game requires others to get by, so you try not to burn any bridges.

Lucky for me, it's 10$ a month. Anyone who bought FFXIV before they re-instated the sub fee, gets it as a discount of 9.99$ a month instead of 14.99, pretty sweet for me. That's a nice chunk of savings.

Hopefully bicycles will be more useful and easier to find in 5

They've said countless times that adding planes in Liberty City for GTA4 just wasn't worth it. The playable area just isn't big enough for them.
