Kim is head because he had a heard attack or a heart disease. So his son is now taking over his place.

North Korea is a minor fascination of mine.

No one can say for sure, but I'd wager money on nothing occuring because of Kim Jong Il's death. There's a leader worship that takes place in North Korea where the people are conditioned to view the leader as a godlike entity. Even if things are super ****ty (and in North Korea, things are generally super ****ty. From the early 90's, 900,000 - 3.5 million people have died of starvation, out of a population of 22 million. The current generation of kids are noticably shorter than their south korean counterparts, and this is because of malnurtion), they still don't view it as the leaders fault. There are interviews of people who have escaped North Korea and these people have made up all sorts of excuses for Kim Jong Il, stating the horrible conditions in North Korea weren't really Kim Jong Il's fault, it was the military or the lack of international support, or the leader meant well, or whatever. And these are the interviews with the people disillusioned enough to flee the country.

So they're raised from birth to view the dear leader as a god like figure. They're required to have pictures of the dear leader and his father in their household and these pictures must be kept clean. There are people employed by the government who go around doing inspections of houses, with the sole purpose of the inspection being to make sure the pictures are kept neat and clean. I think the country is still ruled by Kim Jong Il's father, Kim Il-Song. There's a joke that says North Korea is the worlds only necrocracy.

When the father died, there was mass hysteria in the country. For about a month (or maybe a period of months) after his death, you were required to go to the massive statues erected of him in every city and mourn his death. If you did not properly morn, you would be punished. The state tv even issued a statement claiming that if they mourned enough, the dear leader might be persuaded to come back to life. . I'm not sure about Kim Jong Il, but I think there was a true sense of sadness when the father died, as if the world was going to come to an end.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that North Korea has been in a ****ty situation for quite a while. The military / the sister of Kim Jong Il have the power, but I think they still need Kim Jong Un, the son of Kim Jong Il, just due to how much leader worship is ingrained into their culture now. I've read that the son is just as maniacal as the father was, but I've also read that he was exposed to some western elements because he went to a school in Switzerland when he was a child. He was a huge fan of western sports, specifically Basketball. He got an autograph from Michael Jordan and was supposedly super excited about that.

No idea if things are getting better for the people of North Korea or not, but I've seen people make the claim that the situation in the country is improving. Information and technology is slowly leaking in.

I also think it's worth mentioning that North Korea might not be as suicidal as they may seem on the surface. I think North Korea uses the threat of Nuclear Weapons and invading South Korea to receive foreign aid. Every time they act up and act like douchebags, they get sent money or food for appeasement, and it's a vicious feedback cycle.

And just some other facts I thought were interesting - North Korea has the largest assortment of artillery in the world, and it's pointed right towards the capital of South Korea, Seoul. Seoul is a modern city in every sense of the word, it has a population of 10 million people and any war between North and South Korea would mean millions dead within the first hours of the war. You can't evacuate a city of that size in time.

I also thought it was interesting just how ****ty the famine got. There was an interview with a doctor from North Korea who fled into China. He stumbled into a Chinese backyard and saw a dog dish with food in it. He began crying when he realized that a dog in China ate better than a doctor in North Korea. North Korea has massive labor camps throughout the country, I guess you could compare them to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. The biggest camps supposedly have 50,000 people in them. I saw a very unsettling speech where a man who escaped such a camp described the conditions. He talked about how children would comb through feces in search of any niblet of food that was undigested. Truly ****ed up and horrible place.

He probably meant that since Kim Jong Un is a Micheal Jordan fan, Micheal Jordan should instruct Kim Jong Un to fix North Korea. Or something.

The situation in North Korea is really sad. I really wish there was something I (or anyone for that matter) could do, like reset the country back to zero. Despite some of the things that are being said about the son, I honestly think there's now hope for North Korea to better itself.

I am offended at Damaera's suggestion that we nuke North Korea.

Except for the hundred thousand or so who died from the fires or radiation, I suppose you're right! Where's that Football when we need it?

Whose to say they all wouldn't have died those two days regardless?

Not me, Sub. I'm sure a raptor-invasion would have occurred if not for the bombs. In fact, I'm pretty sure America aimed for the raptors, and that they hit Japan by accident.
