I downloaded the ESF dedicated server files as soon as they were released, but I'm not wholly sure how to install it. I've unpacked it, but it's just sitting in a folder on my desktop for now. I don't want to stick it someplace and overwrite something that will mess my play ability up.

Try sticking it in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\dedicated server
