Installation Crash

G'day, I've recently downloaded the full installation file from GamersHell, copied to a CD and brought it home to install on my computer, i also at this time installed the half life update, but when I loaded up the ESF installation file the program froze at the prompt, "Checking for installed components" (the very first one). And obviously did nothing.
This isn't the first time i have installed, i have done so on my previous computer. Specs for both below.

New CP
Athalon 2.6 chip
256 MG Ram
80 GB Hard Drive
Geforce 4 Mx 440 64 MB
OS: Windows XP Home

Older CP
Celeron 500 chip
64MB Ram
10 GB Hard Drive
8 MB Shared Graphics Memory
OS: Windows 98

If Anybody can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Just leave it, it will eventually work. It isn't frozen (Taskmanager is a liar).

thanks for your help, it worked but then i got a "corupt installation file" message and was forced to abort, and on my 56 K that means wasting a new CD

i have this prob to (the crashing when checking files)'i've waited over 15 min (almost 30 min) and it still didn't do anything
