When I load the game and click on "find servers," it just says "could not contact master game server to retrieve server list". Any ideas on how to fix?

It's a connection problem. Are you behind a router or firewall that would be blocking your connection to the Steam servers?

Are you using Steam?
Are you running behind a firewall or router?
Are you using version 1.2.3?
Which game did you install ESF into?

That seems strange.

Is your Half-Life updated?

Yes, but there have been a number of problems recently where people claim Steam doesn't update their Half-Life -_-.

You are trying to use Half-Life 1 correct?
What happens when you play other HL mods (that need HL)?

I guess try redownloading HL from Steam. If your DoD works than that's the only solution I can really think of.

Ok, you need to use Steam.

Also, don't double post. Edit button is good for you.

You can input your Half-Life CD-Key into Steam. Once you do that you can just double click on the Half-Life icon in the "My games" menu on Steam, and it will download automatically.

Steam will not update your non-Steam Half-Life.

Steam updates the Half-Life that is in the Steam directory automatically, which is the Half-Life you should be using.

It means it's still downloading / updating. :)

If it's stuck, that's another problem. Take that up with the people over at the Steam forums.
