There were a few jpg script/virii that spread rather rapidly through IRC... you could ask Humpie, I saved him from having to format after he opened that Jessica Alba picture, and ran the embedded script. It also changed his homepage to something rather... disturbinig. Not to mention deleted some files from his system32 folder.

It was so bad that the gamesnet staff did a global announcement to warn people about it.

IE displays them, and runs whatever embedded script there is. Anything non-IE say "Image contains errors can cannot be displayed."

(I would assume it's a "script", but I don't know the technical term).

IE because Mozilla = Ad-ware/Spyware
If Mozilla Firebird/FireFox contained spyware, I don't think they would give out the code to it. That's almost as bad as SierraSonic's claim that it's built from the the stolen Win2k source.

----------------------------------------------

By automatic spyware downloading, I believe Mystix was referring to unsigned ActiveX controls that download and install fun stuff like XXX Toolbars.

----------------------------------------------

Harsens, if you used standard Mozilla (the one that looks like Netscape), you should really give Firebird/Firefox a try. It's tabbed browsing system is almost exactly the same as Opera's. And it's much, much faster than standard Mozilla.

I have used IE in the past, because I didn't realize the options available to me. No more than a few months ago I decided to try a third party browser.

My roommates use Opera, but at the suggestion of a friend I went with Mozilla. Thus far, I have prefered everything about it. It took a while to get used to the look and feel, since I was so used to IE.

But I do enjoy the way Firefox operates. The tabbed windows, built-in pop-up blocker, and completely customizable interface are all nice. I have heard, during the discussion with SS, that apparently IE will get better (more like mozilla and other third-party browsers) with SP2.

But I figure, since Firefox satisfies all my web browsing needs, there is really no need to change again.

If there was a 3rd choice I would have to go with Opera myself, then Mozilla, then IE. Actually I kind of use just Opera and IE right now, but have used Mozilla in the past and it is better than IE IMO, it just takes some getting used to.

Mozilla > IE ...

Personally, I've tried both, and I sort of like both.

However, such plug-ins I've had problems with Firefox, namely Flash..
Plus, some web pages are incompatible with Firefox, which is annoying.
Also, it doesn't scroll as smoothly as IE (Yes, I did enable Smooth Scrolling, which is by default off for some reason), but it's still not as smooth.

Overall, I'd pick IE over Firefox.. afterall, IE comes with windows, and installing FireFox is just cramming up the registry with entries when the two programs really aren't that dissimilar in the first place. You browse for the webpages, not to look at the browser.

Firefox all the way ^_^
The initial start up for firefox is slower, but once it's up and running it runs faster then IE.
Firefox feels more responsive in day-to-day browsing than competitors like Internet Explorer. Pages appear on screen sooner, and there are fewer annoying lock ups. The effect is a browser that feels faster.
I havn't run into any problems as of yet so i'm happy :)

Edit:
Also nevermind HarSens, he wont even switch from ICQ to AIM -_-

And with what sonic was saying
"The new IE is going to come with a pop up blocker, going to have increased security, going to have..."
Talk is cheap, I want to see an IE version that actually is 'stable'.

"Oh yes, the new windows version is suppose to be 200% more stable with new features to promote stability..."
If I had a dime for every time Microsoft blurted out bull**** like that, I would probably be a millionaire by now.

Damn, then imagine how fast a tweaked Firefox would be?

Also, just remember that Mozilla Firefox is still in it's beta stages... so that means more updates and more "ownage" over IE.

Actually, High Speed Cable in an area filled with small town hicks that barely use it, it really doesn't matter what Browser you use.

I thought this was opinion and debate, not MyStiX go all 'convertor' and try to convert everyone by telling them they're wrong ;):]

You should change your title under your name from 'Moderator' to 'Official Firefox Spokes Person'

I think everyone should just use the browser there more comfortable with. If your perfectly comfy getting XXX toolbars and popups, stick with IE. Theres a flash game somewhere that simulates browsing the internet with IE. Its called kill the popups o_O.

I'll stay with firefox. I tried to use IE this morning, and it wouldn't even load a webpage anymore, and I just formatted yesterday. Talk about some microjunk there.
If I had my way, the world would be run with firefox and linux, 'ta hell with this microsoft crap :p

Firefox is better than IE because:
  • No pop-up ads
  • No automatic javascripts (just for harSens :p)
  • No automatic spyware installed
  • No image scripts (jpeg viruses)
  • Tabbed windows (A lot more organized)
    The list goes on..
Ok my rebuttle, note: I am using the IE in windows XP SP2 Beta.

  • No pop-ups, customizable built-in pop-up blocker.
  • No automatic Javascripts anymore, fixed in this version, better security.
  • Add-on manager has options which by default stop and ask you if you want anything installed that changes IE, also most spyware is stopped by the latest ActiveX version.
  • Image Scripts are no longer working, because of the new activex and rebuilt coding.
  • Tabbed interface to come.
  • Less resources used, better easyier interface and menu system.
  • Compatible with 100% of the internet.
  • Allows you to go to windowsupdate. <-- most important!
  • Just plain looks better, and changes apperances with windows skins.
  • Doesn't need to be downlaoded seperately, comes with SP2
  • Built-in firewall, much better than ICF, works now, can be set for programs, or ports.
  • etc
Well, I could go on, but there really is no point in beating around the bush, this WINDOWS BETA PRODUCT, beats the pants of firefox. I can't wait till the full public release comes out.
